Things are only improving for the CDU/CSU/FDP. Good news. I guess the more rural areas report later?

37.3
39.5
8.6
7.5
4.2

37.3 + 8.6 = 45.9%
39.5+ 7.5= 47%

"CDU/FDP 47.0"

Is this a good thing?

What is Schroeder's party affiliation?

FDP will form the coalition. with the Christian Democrats as they did when Kohl was in power.

They could. If they had more votes they could dictate with whom they form a coalition. They could have made one with the SPD.

I recall the FDP leader was also made Foreign Minister (I think his name was Genscher).

Yeah, and was not bad.

I just wish they had outpolled the Greens this time. I bet a lot of communists went Green because it looked like the Left was going to lose.

A strong FDP would have been good.

FDP as a party is a free enterprise party but its leader is openly pro-arab and anti-jewish. This hurt the party badly.

Also note how the Green and FDP totals are edging closer to even as the night continues.

Keep in mind that this can change if there are surprises within local districts.

Seats are more important that percentages.

The lady who speaks in English on German TV just explained that if a party wins more seats outright than their proportional split, when then new seats are created to give them the difference. Last time the SPD picked up 13 excess seats. So this election is NOT over at all.
