TIME Allegations Attempt to Undermine Business: MIDROC

Allegations that Sheik Mohammed Al-Amoudi has financed Al-Qaida's 9/11 operations are not only unfounded, but also attempts to undermine his business activities in Ethiopia.

Those were statements made by the MIDROC group in response to an article that was run on the November 25 on line edition of TIME Magazine.

Author of the article one Adam Zagorin wrote about the lawsuit in August, filed by some 3,000 relatives of the victims of September 11. The $1 trillion lawsuit is against 100 people of which are members of the Saudi royal family and others. Among these is included Ethiopian born Saudi multimillionaire Sheik Mohammed Al-Amoudi.

"The list will also include prominent Saudi charities, financial institutions and businessmen, notably Mohammed al-Amoudi, the multimillionaire owner of a lavish Addis Ababa hotel where Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and rock star Bono stayed this year while on their African tour.

Al-Amoudi has repeatedly denied any links to terrorism."

Senior executives at MIDROC who spoke with The Daily Monitor, however have termed the statements in the article as malicious insinuations that only served to affect Al-Amoudi's business activities by specifically identifying his business ventures here in Ethiopia.

Al-Amoudi owns more than 20 companies in Ethiopia under the MIDROC Group.

"The November 25 issue of TIME Magazine carries a recycled allegation that members of the Saudi royal family and prominent Saudi businessmen were financing Al-Qaida operations, and those smeared by this reckless allegation will respond at the appropriate forum," the MIDROC group said.

The TIME article states that in addition to the 100 people who have already been named, some 50 more are to be added.

"Prime among them is likely to be Saudi Minister of Interior Prince Naif," according to TIME.
