I think you are mis-representing Romney's abortion position. He comes from a Mormon family and is personnally opposed to abortion.

No, I am not. As a strict practicing Mormon myself, it pains me to say it, but the man is pro-abortion to the core. He even supports partial birth abortions regardless of any declared personal opposition to abortion which after all all pro-aborters profess to. He believes in abortion on demand. On this issue, he is a poor representative indeed for our Church. I do believe that he is an honorable man on other issues though.

I think there is a difference between "personal belief" and "public policy." Here's something I read recently ...

"Even before he was officially in, word about Mitt Romney's flip on abortion was out. So when he was questioned about it by reporters, he seemed a little agitated: " I'll say the same thing to you I've said since 1994 and probably before and that is on a personal basis I don't favor abortion. However, as governor of the Commonwealth I will protect the right of a woman to choose."

It sounds to me like Romney is trying to take the abortion wedge issue of the table. The language, "... protect the right to choose ..." means that he intends, as governor, to enforce the law, as it stands. It doesn't sound to me like he is trying to expand abortion rights. It sounds to me like politico-speak of a guy trying to get elected.

So those of you in Massachusetts (my old man was from Danvers and I still have cousins back on the Cape), your "choice" will be a dyed-in-the-wool liberal Democrat or a moderate, pro-business Republican. You can call him a "RINO" if you want, but I think he would be a big improvement over a couple of the recent Republican governors that State has had.

But hey, I'm out here on the left coast! Gray Davis country. What do I know?!
