Let us take this moment in time to wish our wonderful Jewish friends a Healthy and Happy New Year!! In a time of strife in all too many places throughout our world, especially in the Middle East, perhaps we could stop hating long enough to take inventory of the overwhelming issues that we all share, love of family, concern for friends, and hope for tomorrow. Let us each in our own way, pray for a peaceful place in our hearts, that is big enough to fit a person that we differ with, long enough to get to know them as a real person, family loving, caring person, not as a member of a group or an adversary. Perhaps any New Year celebration, no matter your, or our religious beliefs is a good time to take a small step toward a start, a new beginning, a chance at peace. Well said carlo.

original Jewish food tastes terrible. You can get original Jewish food at other places than my mother-in-law's.
Holiday menu at Alouette's:
1st course.
Round challah (egg bread)
Apple slices dipped in honey.
2nd course.
Gefile fish
Baked salmon
Assorted salads.
3rd course.
Homemade chicken soup w/matzoh balls & thin noodles.
4th course.
Honey glazed brisket
Roasted potatoes
Sweet potato "tzimmes" of yams, dried fruit and honey.
Lockshen kugel (noodle pudding)
Dessert.
Are you kidding? Who has room for dessert???
Homemade honey cake
Chocolate vanilla-chip cookies
Herb tea.

Peace and life to the Jewish people, especially in Israel where they face their surrounding enemies on a daily basis, during their new year holiday.

Hey Girl!! Believe it or not, this was served at our favorite Deli in Chicago not long ago, they featured it on their website. So much for tradition!...Ha!
Coconut-Curry Thai Chicken Soup
- 3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 3 serrano chili peppers, stemmed and thinly sliced
- 2 tsp. ea. ground coriander and turmeric (watch the turmeric, it's a stainmaster..LOL)
- 1 tsp. ea. ground caraway seeds, anise, and white peppercorns
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 2 Tbs. peanut oil
- 10 cups Light Chicken Stock
- 2 14-oz. cans unsweetened coconut milk
- Grated zest from 2 limes
- 2 Tbs. fish sauce (nuoc cham)
- 1 lb. Thai or Japanese eggplants, cut into 1-inch chunks
- 3 cups coarsely chopped white chicken meat (uncooked)
- 1 Tbs. sugar
- 1/2 cup each coarsely chopped fresh cilantro and basil
1) In a heavy-bottomed, 6-quart saucepan, sauté the garlic, chilies, and spices in the peanut oil over moderate heat for 10 minutes, stir-ring frequently.
2) Add the chicken stock, coconut milk, lime zest, and fish sauce. Bring to a boil over high heat and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3) Add the eggplant, chicken, and sugar, reduce the heat to moderately low, and simmer for 12 to 15 minutes or until the eggplant is tender and the chicken is just cooked through.
Garnish portions with cilantro and basil before serving.
Makes about 12 cups.
