Ok, try this, I watched one of those idiots make a woman take her little son's french fry box, with 3 french fries still in it, and run it through the scanner. Need more evidence?

Hey, this IS serious. You could poke someone in the eye and cause some irritation with that thing. The victim would be be sitting there with a teary eye wating for
a bottle of "Clear Eyes".

I guess they should begin disarming all the National Guardsmen patrolling the airports IMMEDIATELY. Those M-16's are a lot more dangerous than a toy G.I soldier's lil 2 incher and besides your American soldier could turn out to be a terrorist in uniform!

Oh, don't worry too much. In most states the Guardsmen are carrying UNLOADED weapons. Then again maybe you should worry as a terrorist is unlikely to obey the order to not carry ammunition....

I suppose all one has to do is drive to work and observe the competence, or is that incompetence of the average driver, to know that this type of stupidity is already rampant in the population. I always do a sex check when I observe stupidity. There does not appear to be any bias between the sexes. If we could just have the CDC declare stupity a disease or a hereditary defect, maybe those remaining would have have a chance.

People could not possibly be this incredibly moronic, because there's not even a damn word to desribe that level of vapid stupidity.

My uncle travels a lot on business. He changed seating assignments on a recent flight, which flagged him for the security check. After the check, as he was boarding the a/c (and everyone else was waiting for him to board), he was stopped for another security check.

BY THE SAME "SECURITY" GUARD!

"George’s mum Becky, 29, said the lad was “really upset” when he realised his GI Joe had been disarmed."

Why would something like this upset him? His entire country has been disarmed.

"...at some point common sense has to take over."

Since when has a government official exhibited common sense when they have the power to harrass a law abiding citizen?

The one thing that would have prevented 9/11 is the one thing they won't allow; armed pilots!

Its OK, its OK!

Those M-16s don't have bullets in them. That would scare the moron liberals using the airport.

Been Britain she'd be looking up from under the jail right now; what's she mean "I couldn't believe it."??
She's from the country contemplating banning ALL toy guns!

Airport security

Stealing a GI-Joe accessory has nothing to do with security.

I wonder how long before the trucks delivering toys will be stopped & searched.

Yup. Then we would have to come up with a way of getting toys to the kids. Maybe we could have them hang stockings in the windows and stick the toys in there.

I wonder if we could find somebody willing to take on a job like that...

An insidious aspect of these airport follies is the example being set for youngsters. They see government enforcers acting in stupid, arbitrary ways. This could cause children to think (a)Law enforcement officers are stupid and don't have to be taken seriously, (b)Law enforcement officers are to be feared, or (c)Government's power to control him or her is natural and not to be questioned. To the extent that some, if not many, children absorb these assessments, they will be much easier to brainwash when they get to college.

Security chiefs at Los Angeles airport said: “We have instructions to confiscate anything that looks like a weapon or a replica. ...

Ahhhhh! There's the problem. Their instructions specify anything that LOOKS like a weapon or a replica. Nevermind the confusion about what a 'replica' weapon actually is...they just haven't been instructed to confiscate any actual weapons. Which explains why one out of three actual weapons gets through. That just leaves us with the question of why two out of three actual weapons doesn't get through. Mistaken for replicas?

... “If GI Joe was carrying a replica then it had to be taken from him.

Him? Did he resist? Why was he still allowed to fly after such a flagrant violation?

excellent example of why the DHS employees shouldn't have civil service protections. We don't want stupid people like that "protecting" us

"“I can understand them wanting to ban weapons or things that look like weapons, but surely common sense has to take over at some point."

And this assumption would be based on what premise in recent experience??

"I explained what had happened, but he just kept shaking his head saying it was silly and ‘Don’t those people understand the gun was a toy? and couldn’t shoot’.”

Out of the mouths of babes. I'm betting this kid is gonna be left with an indelible impression of how NOT to run airport security. Probably be a second amendment advocate too, assuming of course that it hasn't been done away with by the time the boy is grown.

"Doesn't it make you feel safer flying though?"

Oh yeah. I can't tell you the times I've been flying and just couldn't stop worrying about some little kid coming unglued and hijacking the plane with GI Joe's gun.
