While, I have not often found myself in agreement with Justin Raimondo and have almost always disagreed with Antiwar.com due to their overall anti-war stance, I have to admit that this is one of the best written pieces I have ever read on the truth about liberal Democrat President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Pearl Harbor and US involvement in World War Two. While World War Two may not have been "a good war", it was in many respects a just war in the sense that we were fighting to free some countries from German and Japanese occupation. It was unjust in the sense that FDR provided billions in direct military and military-industrial assistance to the Soviet Union and cravenly appeased the greatest mass murder in human history at the time, Josef Stalin by ceding to him fully half of Europe including control of all of Eastern Europe and most of Central Europe as well as northern China and northern Japan, directly resulting in the enslavement of all of mainland China to Mao's Red Army by 1949.

However, it was also a war unjustly fought in many respects by all of its participants including the Brits that killed over a million innocent German civilians by terrorist area bombing strikes and the US that did the same to over a million innocent Japanese men, women and children through firebombing and atomic bombing air-strikes.

Unfortunately, above all else World War Two was a war to replace Nazi domination of the continent of Europe with Communist domination of virtually the entire Eurasian landmass, resulting in the further enslavement of over 725 million people in Eastern Europe and mainland China by Communist tyrants by 1949. It was in short a war not to make the world safe for democracy, but a war to make the world safe for Communism. This fact does not in any way, tarnish the proud, valiant and heroic sacrifices of the 11 million men and women who served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War Two which includes both of my grandfathers and my adopted grandfather as well.

The author also does a great job in explaining how FDR's mindless and militarily and strategically inept unconditional surrender policy unnecessarily prolonged the war by 1-2 years resulting in the deaths of millions of Americans, Germans, Japanese and British and indeed the mass murder of millions of innocent Jews, Germans and Japanese non combatants by the warring parties that might have otherwise been averted.

FDR's secondary purpose of involving the US in the war was to rescue and institutionalize FDR's national socialist welfare-state New Deal programs which had utterly failed to pull this country out of the Great Depression. Indeed before FDR, both major US political parties embraced social and economic conservative policies of small government which would be viewed as extreme or far right today.

When I watched the movie Pearl Harbor, I cried at the thought of how FDR deliberately betrayed over 2400 American sailors, airmen and civilians to their deaths in order to get the US into war against Germany and Japan. The man was also a stooge to Communist dictator Stalin and all-in-all a vile traitor to this country and it is time that the truth be known about his true colors. FDR doesn't deserve a memorial any more than any other national socialist fellow-traveler with Communism.

For more info about FDR's traitorous actions and the truth about how Pearl Harbor was deliberately left naked to enemy attack and not informed of the Japanese plans to attack Pearl which had been given to FDR by the Brits and other sources by November 26th, 1941, please see the link below...

How about Justin Raimondo kowtowing to arabs right now? Look at www.antiwar.com, they are always critical of us and Israel, but never of arabs.

Childish and highly silly article without any reference

I don't know about Raimondo, but Stinnett did a ton of research on the subject and ultimately was stonewalled at the secured Naval Archives. His book is an interesting read and has many primary source references.

On December 4, 1941, the Chicago Tribune headline was blazing with extraordinary news: FDR'S WAR PLANS! The story detailed a heretofore secret document prepared by the Army and Navy in which a ten-million man army would be raised, half of which would invade Europe in 1943. The Tribune reporter, Chesly Manly, even reprinted the cover letter of the plan, a note from the President authorizing its preparation. The public outcry was deafening. This from the man who had vowed during his fight for a third term that he would "never" send American troops to fight in Europe!

Justin, either you are being terribly naive or outright misleading. How on earth can you possibly be suprised that the War Department had "plans" to fight a war in Europe when, strangely enough, there was a war in Europe!?

It is the mark of a good soldier to plan for every contingency. There are legions of people right now planning for things that would probably make you wet your pants, but it doesn't mean we are going to go through with them. I can guarantee that somewhere deep in the bowels of the Pentagon, there is a "plan" to invade Canada.

It would be the height of irresponsibility and stupidity for the War Department NOT to have plans for conducting a war in Europe at the time.

Funny how FDR deliberately kept Pearl Harbor from knowing about the attack with messages like "THIS IS TO BE CONSIDERED A WAR WARNING."

And, since all the conspiracy theories ascribe to FDR God-like knowledge of everything having to do with Japan, and, in fact, an ability to control them like Puppets, he would have "known" that the Japanese had no intention of calling off the attack if they were discovered or Pearl Harbor was warned; in fact, the Japanese DIDN'T expect to surprise Pearl Harbor, but expected to have to fight their way in. They of course TRIED for surprise.

So, the crux of the matter is that there is NO LOGICAL REASON for FDR NOT to warn Pearl Harbor if he knew of the attack.

It's pretty clear he didn't. Instead of the cobbled-together Pearl Harbor conspiracy moneymaker of the week, people really should read Gordon Prange's "At Dawn We Slept", particularly the chapter dealing specifically with the conspiracy kooks.

while i never agree with anti-war.com, i'm very surprised to see the pro-FDR replies on this thread. FDR single-handedly brought socialism to the united states. i spit on his grave.

I thought that the South Park gang already took care of this.

While I am opposed to Libertarianism and oppose Antiwar.com's articles in opposition to Bush's war on terror, even Libertarians like Justin Raimondo get things right once in a while. He got this one spot on! I am happy to even agree with a Libertarian or even a liberal for that matter if they embrace truth and conservatism on any given issue. The reason is that it is conservative principle and God's truth that matters. Anything that diverts right thinking God-fearing conservatives from dedication to truth, right, and principle is an obstacle that must be overcome and averted.

It is intellectually dishonest to allow one's feelings for a person color the truth. I hold no love for FDR, but this article is pure tin-foil. There is nothing wrong with defending the truth, even if it concerns someone you don't respect.

Have you ever read anything more stupid. Where are the references for that statement, and what about the idiotic conclusion. Would it have been less disasterous if Hitler, the stupid little mafioso thug, was allowed to surrounder? Any references that he was interested in doing so??

The idea was to work with the anti-Hitler German generals to get them to overthrow Hitler and surrender to the Allies and return to their 1937 boundaries with full de-Nazification of Germany. That would have ended the war at least a year earlier and possibly much earlier had Allied leaders supported such a sensible policy. What better, life-saving policy could there be than to support than to work with anti-Hitler German leaders and encourage them to kill Hitler and end the war in Europe? Such common sense is oft neglected by US leaders and continues to be today...
