Who wants to bet his neighborhood has gotten more 'diverse'. Liberals always use that word like it's a good thing.

If the perp were successful with the robbery, would this crowd of relatives have been supportive of Mr. Weathers? I think not. This slimeball thief tried to break into this man's house - AND - brought a weapon (BB gun or not, its a weapon). He deserved what he got.

It's a shame that the community in which Mr. Weathers lives, can't support him - but rather supports the perpetrator's right to rob him without recourse.

That's typical for the Memphis PD which is really a patronage job and not a very professional oraganization, hence Memphis has a higher murder rate than DC.

From what I know of Memphis, I'm guessing Mr. Weathers is black as have been most of his longtime neighbors. What has changed is the culture which seems to celebrate gangsterism and support criminals.

I'll bet you're right Dialup. My wife and I found a beautiful home we wanted to buy. Even though we are white and the neighborhood is predominantly black we decided to buy and move in. The older residents are a very nice and supportive group but the younger ones for the most part are ignorant thugs. I've lived in the inner city most of my life and I've never had any trouble with folks of color but the young people are scary. There has been a near total breakdown in the families of these kids. They are angry and predatory. The only thing that makes them back off is the certain knowledge of a bullet to the brain. Even though I live in a state that does not allow legal conceal and carry for common citizens and in spite of personal experience with shooting and being shot at and never wanting to do so again, I have grown comfortable with a sidearm and shotgun. sigh....

Please don't mistake my comments for racism, I assure you that's not the case, the only people I dislike are social engineering leftists and hardcore statists.

You could very well be right, but there are several clue in the article to lead me to believe otherwise. First of all, Mr. Weathers had a shotgun he bought for deer-hunting, which is not common among blacks, at least around here (Indiana). Second, Mr. Weathers remark "When the neighborhood started to change we talked about moving but were in no hurry." and "I mean when we moved here it was a nice place, but it has progressively gone down hill," are typical of what I hear from people whose neighborhoods are becoming more "diverse".

A few years ago I lived in a nice suburb of Boston that was only about 1/3 of a mile from the "hood" part of Boston. Kids from the "hood" used to come to this suburb to steal bicycles. One weekend a neighbor heard some noise in his garage and found two kids about to ride off on his children's bicycles. One kid dropped the bike and ran but he was able to grab the other kid by the arm. He called for his wife and she came and telephoned the Police who arrived shortly and took the kid away. The kid was about 11-12 years and said he wasn't "stealin' nothin'", and that he had heard there was a mini bike for sale at that house and he had come to look at it (a complete fabrication). The other kid got grabbed by another Police car as he was running at full speed to the border between Boston and the suburb.

The next day about eight of these kids older brother and friends (in the 15 to 19 year age range) came down the street carrying baseball bats and pieces of pipe and turned up the dead end street where the kids had attempted to steal the bikes. I saw them and called the cops and a few cop cars quickly arrived and lugged some of them away before they made it to the house. Apparently they were on the way to beat the hell out of the homeowner who got their little brothers arrested.

In their minds he apparently should have just let their little brothers steal the bikes, and that the homeowner had to "pay" for their getting arrested.

so they become fair game.

I'm from Memphis and am almost certain Mr Weathers is white. I am in the same situation myself as I am the lone "white" in my immediate neighborhood.

The area I am in has improved since the local "projects" was closed last year. One reason I don't have trouble may be that the "kids" are somewhat scared of me. I am considered somewhat crazy. (I encourage them to believe this). I could tell you some stories.
