"turbas".It goes back a little further. "Turba" was also the name (in Latin) given to the crowds at the Passover--it was the 'turbas' who asked for Barabbas!! and told Pilate to crucify Christ.

Wow, I like that.
Latin derivation always hooks me, but I never thought to look up the word. It means tumult.
I did an essay on Free Republic, regarding Barabbas and the Clinton impeachment. I said that the throngs of people who supported Clinton were essentially calling for Barabbas' freedom over what they saw as the overly judgemental Christian right.
