Not just no...Hell No!!! If they want to go to their country of origin and apply for a visa in the leagal way, that's fine, but this amnesty is a huge mistake. The only message it sends is , sneak in to the US however you can, work under the table, eventually you'll be given amnesty.

No amnesty, period.

Thanks Sabertooth for bringing this issue front and center on FR. Since the media refuses to cover the crisis of illegal immigration, this issue needs all the exposure it can get.
Should all or some portion of the Illegal Aliens be granted an Amnesty and be thereby allowed to change their status and acquire legal residence in the United States?
Absolutely NOT on ALL counts.
My reasons for being against any form of Amnesty for Illegal Aliens are as follows:
- Amnesty rewards illegal aliens for breaking our immigration laws and engaging in a range of crimes like identity fraud, document fraud and labor fraud.
- Amnesty only encourages more illegal immigration. Border Hoppers know that if they enter America illegally it's just a matter of time before they get Amnestied also.
- Amnesty provides an enticing opening for Terrorists to obtain Green Cards.
- Amnesty punishes prospective immigrants that dutifully follow our laws and wait patiently for admission while illegal aliens get what they want simply by crashing our gates.
- Amnesty breeds a general lack of respect for our laws and engenders an atmosphere of lawlessness in the country.
- Amnesty results in "Chain Immigration" whereby Amnestied illegal aliens are allowed to bring in their families thereby exponentially increasing the flow of immigrants into America and a never-ending chain for more immigration.
- Finally, the vast majority of Hispanic Americans are AGAINST Amnesty and Illegal Immigration! So just what kind of votes are Bush and the GOP going after by pandering to Hispanic Groups with things like Amnesty and Immigrant Welfare? Is it the Illegal Alien Vote? Id like to know.
The bottom line is that there is NOTHING intrinsically good about rewarding law breakers with Amnesty.
If Mr. Bush and the GOP continue to push for Amnesties and remain silent as the immigration invasion turns our country upside down they have permanently lost my vote, my familys vote and as many people as I can convince to do likewise.
Enough was Enough 20 YEARS AGO!

I'll support an amnesty for illegal aliens when we have amnesties for child molestors and murderers. IMHO taking one group of people and deciding they don't need to follow the law is a clear violation of the 14th amendment.

NO AMNESTY
For one, it is rewarding law breaking. Secondly, we were told in 1986 that there would not be another amnesty. Thirdly, amnesties only encourage more law breaking, as has been the case since the 1986 amnesty. Fourth, an amnesty will bring added debt to America, as Illegal Aliens consume more in government programs that they give in taxes. Fifth, given PC group politics and lack of assimilation, we're talking about bring a foreign alien culture into America to set up camp. Fifth, the Hispanic pimps, ala LaRaza, have an agenda to "take back" the southwest. We should not encourage them to do so. Sixth, illegals take away jobs from Americans, as employers illegally lower wages and force-out American born citizens. Seventh, the previous example contributes to higher welfare roles among U.S. citizens, as well as illegal aliens. Eighth, given the corruption, illegals are soaking up social services. Ninth, under the anchor baby "amendment", those illegals who are encouraged to jump our borders for the reward of amnesty, may happen to have children on U.S. soil, and that makes them automatic U.S. citizens. Tenth, with them being automatic U.S. citizens, that allows them to gain a hold in the reconquista of the U.S. through social group politics, family reuinification and a failure to assimilate. This is perpetuated through the shear numbers as a result of this policy, as well as non-enforcement of U.S. immigration policy.
What do the above ten examples tell you? They tell you that the direction we are heading down is ridiculous. In fact, it is ludicrous. What needs to be done?
1)Beef-up of U.S. Border Patrol by 500%
2)Beef-up of INS interior by 1000%
3)Allow the military to patrol the borders, if needed.
4)Prosecute employers if knowingly hiring illegals.
5)Eliminate Welfare to Illegals.
6)Eliminate the "Anchor Baby" Amendment.
7)Eliminate the family reunification clause, instead focusing on benefit to the country on an individual basis.
8)An immigration moratorium of ten years before any more immigration.
9)A cap on immigration of 75,000-100,000 per year after moratorium.
10)80% of immigration should be confined to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
Of course, numbers eight through ten are more direct with immigration reform as opposed to illegal immigration. However, I see those as important issues, too.

My Filipina wife and I are in absolute accord: Do not reward those who don't follow the rules. As to legal immigration, a return to more historic levels is imperative, and a heavy dosage of assimilation is needed in our schools and other public institutions. Soon, if not already, the balkanization trend so evident in southern California will become more than an empty abstraction to residents of Nebraska and North Carolina. What's especially maddening about this entire issue is that it is almost impossible to discuss without being subjected to McCarthyite and career-limiting charges of racism, nativism, xenophobia et al. I like the spirit of your posting.

I suspect that the powers that be will grant one though...there seems to be a strong push to bring in ever more cheap labor.

With the giving of drivers licenses, discounted college tuitions, free medical care, free education, etc. to the illegals, I think we are already giving a continual backdoor amnesty to the illegals. The politicians are very sneaky.

Absolutely NO AMNESTY for illegals and the deportation of ALL MUSLIMS whose mosques could be used to house prisoners.
To: Sabertooth
THE PROPOSITION, GENERALLY SPEAKING, IS NOT FOR
US TO DECIDE.
RATHER, YOUR WHOLE QUESTION SHOULD BE RESTRICTED AND DIRECTLY TO ONLY THOSE IN AMERICA WHO ENTERED USA TERRITORY IN A LEGAL FASHION, THROUGH THE CORRECT I.N.S. PAPERWORK AND OTHER PROCEDURES.
I'll take their vote as the final say on this issue (regarding those who entered in a different fashion, i.e. illegally, out of line and breaking the rules).

"I oppose all Amnesties for Illegals Aliens, in any form", as do I. In addition, I want very, very limited immigration in the future. Applicants need to be screened with a fine tooth comb and only those who wish to be Americans for reasons other than "I need a job" should be allowed in. We don't need anymore victim classes nor do we need any who despise all that we stand for.

I oppose any amnesty for the millions of people who have come into America illegally. I resent the fact that the hard earned money of American taxpayers is used to support them (welfare and food stamps, full medical care, education for their children, and housing assistance, etc).
Offering so much to them has opened the floodgates, it sends out the signal to third world countries that all they have to do is sneak over the border and all their needs will be met for free. Now as a result of this policy, there are millions of them here who we will have to support forever, along with all their relatives who can come too. Why should anyone apply for legal citizenship now that they don't have to? Why should the lawbreakers get a free pass and go to the front of the line ahead of those who apply legally?
The only way to solve this problem is employer sanctions, huge fines for those who hire illegal aliens, also revocation of the "anchor baby" law, and mass deportation to follow. The President should announce to the nation that it is time for those who are here illegally to go home and wait their turn, then apply for legal entry. Let the INS do their job.
This would open up millions of jobs for many of those American welfare recipients who should be working and don't work because they don't have to. The nanny nation should be a thing of the past, we can't afford it anymore.

I absolutely oppose ANY amnesty for ILLEGAL aliens and furthur support an ambitious effort to deport those already here and control our borders well enough to prevent furthur invasion. While I realize that it may be impossible to prevent access 100% to those who would get here illegally, we don't have to roll out the red carpet for them either, offering them every kind of amenity that the liberals can wrench from the public coffers. Nor should we make it easy for them to live, work, attend school and attain health care services without question. If they were held to half the standards that citizens are required to meet in order to do these things, there is no reason why there shouldn't be a 99.9% discovery and deportation rate because there are some of these services that no one can avoid all the time.
That said, I think there should be continued exceptions for political refugees and those who have escaped from such atrocities as prostitution and slavery when returning them to their countries would subject them to furthur abuse and possibly even torture or death. Other extenuating circumstances might include a health crisis while in this country legally that would preclude traveling after the individual's legal status has expired. But even in this case, that would not involve amnesty, but rather an extension of legal status until such time as the individual could return.
