I refer to them as Neo's.

Conservatives don't need hyphens.

This article is spot on. In fact, I got myself banned for argueing with the many wimpy neo-cons we have on FR.

Whatever you say Jeff baby. The only bit in the piece that has any nexus with reality is that big that neocons are not hard-wired to have an Pavlovian anti-government attitude about everything government does or should be doing. We take on issues one at a time, and consider the merits.

Did you actually type "South" and "bigot" in the same sentence with a straight face?

Pretty easily I imagine because it's true

I plan on doing my part in reviving the label and making it stick to these anti-liberty, anti-South bigots.

They seem to be trying to distence themselves from the term, at least those who understand the definition

....and the "Neo-Conservatives" will respond by labeling "Traditionalists" as "Neo-Reactionaries" to the enjoyment of the other major party and most of the Third Parties.

Than again, it could be Neo as in a New tank of gas for a New car.

Or New Coke.

Yup, that movement began under National Review, on through to Goldwater, and culminated in Reagan. So, are the paleos saying their day is but upon us all?

What has me scratching my head is the "neos" continual tendancy to demonstrate their total contempt for the "paleos" when, at the same time, they know full well they are the life force of their party.

AKA cutting off nose to spite face.

Wimpy? Bring it! Let's see just how much of a "wimp" this so-called "neo" truly is.

When those types of epithets are tossed around, I then get up in your face.

And to think that you have my homestate in your username with such an attitude.

Whatever.

But like I said, "Bring it!"

BTW, ever wonder how Reagan managed to avoid this unhappy result?

Actually, most people do not realize it, but a lot of what Hillary proposed has been instituted. I don't think they intended to get socialized medicene at that time. It was good enough to get people up in arms, then defeat her, then she could go about getting it implemented a little at a time. Many, many of her ideas were forced upon insurance companies, forcing many small conservative (well-managed) insurance companies out of business, thereby, giving the American people less and less power over their own healthcare. I hope no one thinks socialized medicene is dead. It is alive and well and growing.

I did not see in the article either a reference to examples of neo-conservatives (i.e., names of influential neo-conservatives -- I don't think Orin Hatch nor John McCain would fit the characterization of a neo-conservative), nor quotes from neo-conservatives to indicate that the writer of the article wasn't simply setting up a straw man to tear down.

De nada! Neo-cons are bedwetters. And to someone else that said that he has never met a neo-con, i can tell ya that the People's Republic of Maryland is infested with them. They are called the Republican Party of Maryland ;-) ;-).

I'm reformed lefty as well....guess that makes me a neocon too....yet my views are often to the right of the Goldwater club. Labels can be decieving.

Anybody thinks Sowell is not conservative is deluded.

Be happy to. Explain why (again) to me that we have to support the Shrub because he is "our guy" in spite of signing the "Patriot" Act, the Farm Bill; CFR; and he will sign the Prescription Drugs for Seniors??? If W. is not a neo-con, then what is?

Use Crayola this time. Just to make sure I get the point why it is not ok to criticize folks for "not being conservative enough." < /sarcasm>

R U "pro-choice?" R U in favor of the chickenhawks calling for the war on Iraq? R U in favor of "faith-based" government programs?

If no, then you are not a neo-con in the way i define the term.

William Kristol is the epitome of the term. 'Pod
