LOL, well not the usual however I think it'd be safe to say I've been attacked more than once for 'gasp' wanting to be truly conservative. I think the author of the article has it dead on. Republicans of today have become some sort of big government nice guys. As long as 'our' side is in power, devil be d#mned if you speak out against them. What I find truly ironic is that if a Democrat were doing the exact same things, the outrage from any Republican would be heard for miles.

I'm a free-thinker who views issues through the lenses of free (fair) trade, deregulation, tremendously less taxation, overwhelmingly strong defense, and liberty. How to attain these are up for debate to me, but apparently not for others. To them, it's their way or the highway.

If you can honestly point to me a difference that I can stand on, believe in, just within the campaign here in NC between Elizabeth Dole and Erskine Bowles, I would consider your argument. However they are both the same shade. Both talking about national healthcare, both for tariffs, both at some level pro-choice, both anti-gun, and both big government. Yet the true conservatives are called 'fringe' because they believe in the Constitution and hold mainly conservative views. They also won't be able to pick up the vote after the RNC (which made the choice sometime back in Feb. and we haven't even had our primaries yet!!) has dumped every bit of money behind Giddy because of her name recognition.

This is just one example but it is becoming more prevalent in the political world

I lived under a "true" socialist government from 1991 to 1995.The real, Euro kind of traditional socialist apparatus, and it was a misery,so i know a little thing about what a socialist is and isn't.When the Paleo goes off tarring those to the left of them as socialists,but well to the right of Ralph Nader, well, I say gimme some of that socialism!!

I would rather "throw my vote away" on an independent or third-party candidate and sleep well at night because I didn't contribute to the continuing downfall of our lost republic by voting for a neo-conservative/socialist, than choose "the lesser of two evils" and know that I voted into office someone who was going to go for my wallet and stab me in the back as if he were a common street mugger.

Well see I say that and get attacked for apparently having principles. From the responses I've seen of late, it just strengthens my belief that the only way to return to what the Founders had in mind would be to abolish the 17th Amendment. The voters have seen they can vote themselves money, among other things, from the public treasury and the general government. At this rate I truly feel we are at Tyler's 'apathy to dependency' point with only bondage left to go
