I agree, the M1 series tank is an excellent weapon system, and has many excellent safety features built in. I'm not sure what happened here.

I remember reading a quote from an Iraqi colonel after the Gulf War, I'm paraphrasing here, since I don't have the actual quote in front of me:

"For three months, the U.S. Air Force bombed us, night and day, and as a result, we lost a couple of tanks and a few soldiers. Then the Second Cavalry attacked us, and in three hours we had lost an entire armored battalion."

Way to go, 2nd ACR, Tujours Pret!

This event made it onto Paul Harvey's "News And Comment" show today.
This means there is at least a chance it might be looked into and fixed.
