I dunno...

I think there is a place for the Comanche. If it fills a vacant need that say the Apache or an upgraded Apache cannot....then I would thiunk it should stay.

I understand the drive for UCAVs and the like but not having a manned combat Helicopter is a hard pill to swallow....even for my "progressive" Military views.

What has me tripped out is the fact that the M1A2 Abrams is planned to be fielded by only two "Brigades".

??? I dont know about that one...

Whatever these lightweight vehicles are...they better be really lethal from distances unapproachable by adversary MBTs.

Kind of exciting to see the changes coming forward.

I have also been in deep thought about the reduction in our numbers of M1A2 MBTs. It does seem to fly in the face of orthodox combative logic to replace the world's best operational tank with light weight humvee type vehicles.

However i guess the same was said when centuries ago some commander decided to replace the trusty trebuchet and mangonel with a brass cannon! I guess advancement occurs and what was once orthodox becomes obsolete.

However i would rather be in an Abrams MBT than to be in a light weight Humvee type vehicle (after all the reactive armor of the abrams can take care of multiple direct hits to the tank ....but i am pretty sure even a molotov cocktail thrown well can take care of the 'light weight combat vehicle' let alone an AP shell from a T-90).

Actually one critic was saying that the opposing force in its MBTs may not even have to use its AP and HEAT shells but just use their machine guns to mess up the vehicles. And considering Egypt has many M1A2s, Russia is selling its T-80s, and even some T-90s, and some nations (eg China)are trying to build MBT versions based on rough versions of the Israeli Merkava i wonder. And although our copters like the AH-64 and other air assets can take care of these MBTs i am almost 100% sure that if the light weight vehicle met up with a T-80 possessing rective armor things might be bad. Unless of course somehow our Light vehicle has a 'long stick' and can knock out the tank before the MBTs main gun can get it.

Who knows? Maybe that is it!

Anyways i just hope Shisenki knows what the heck he is doing replacing the Abrams.

Whatchathink? Is he crazy or does he know something that the rest of the army (tank commanders think he is crazy) and the rest of us do not know? Mmmmh?
