Previous plans for a West Coast vacation are not in the picture for Lois and Ed Smart in what has seemed like a summer of child abductions across the nation. No vacation? That should be the least of their worries.

This case is slowly dropping off the media radar screen.
Whoever killed Elizabeth Smart will never be caught and her body may never be found.

Edward Smart has been particularly careful with his words. "I know they're doing all they can," he said. "I know they do have lots of leads." His wife has been slightly less diplomatic. "We support them 100 percent," she said. "But it's not going fast enough. I don't think anything they do is fast enough for us."Hey, SLPD, hurry it up, will you? The San Juan Islands are beckoning to Lois and Ed.

Right--what's up with that? I thought the police were on to Ricci because he has a record, worked at the Smart house, has a weak alibi, and broke parole.
Now they're saying Mary Katherine has all but solved the case.
Something is not kosher in Salt Lake City.

This is the weirdest so-called abduction ever. Wouldn't surprise me there's someone highly respected in the community involved, someone with $$power, and the authorities are watching closely.

Yup, OF...as Dominick Dunne, noted crimewriter says: "There is something wrong with this family".
They act as if Elizabeth is away at summer camp. Or an extended harp lesson.

As soon as the police can find a way to grow dark hair on the back of Ricci's hands, they'll indite him.

Hmmmm, Bella, you may be right. Lois says, with regard to other abductions, "This case is completely different". What is she implying? What does she know and when did she know it? It would be nice of her to share with the FBI.

Oh, please. What could be more natural than to wish for the days when their daughter was home and such vacations were possible? I think you are blowing their comments way out of porportion, and reading a negative tone into it that isn't there in the first place.
They want their daughter back, and are prepared to give up a lot more to get her back than what they have already lost, but do you honestly expect them to enjoy having to live through something like this?

About Ricci: How did he go from being a bumbling bank robber and petty thief to masterminding a perfect kidnapping of the daughter of a wealthy, prominent, well-connected family?

In what has seemed like a summer of child abductions,Like last years 'Summer of Sharks', I hope this one turns out like last scare and the statistics don't show a worsening situation.
Maybe one day the media will do stories on what we should really fear, the out of control government where nearly everything they do is blatently UNCONSTITUTIONAL to anyone who can read English and not legalese.
To: Palladin
"They have some kind of closure," Edward Smart said of the families of Samantha Runnion and Erica Pratt.
I despise the word closure! There is no such thing when your child has been raped and murdered!

I think the article is about reflection on an innocence lost. I'm not going to criticize anyone for not saying "the right thing" to a journalist after having gone through what these people have. It is the parents' reflection on a difficult time. I don't see why it needs to be criticized.

They want their daughter back, and are prepared to give up a lot more to get her back than what they have already lost, but do you honestly expect them to enjoy having to live through something like this? Wasn't it the Smart family who said they were going to do things because they have other children for the 4th of July? These people contradict themselves.

Whoever killed Elizabeth Smart will never be caught and her body may never be found. Two little girls, about 10 and 12, the Lyons sisters, were snatched from Wheaton Plaza in suburban Maryland about 25 years ago. Their father was on WMAL radio. They have never been found. Their family must go through a stab of pain with news of every child abduction. My heart goes out to all families that suffer this tragedy.
To: IamHD
Their words may be taken out of context, but they seem to show precious little empathy with all these other families. A little elitism showing through?
At any rate, I don't expect any of the Smarts to become fierce child advocates like John Walsh, Marc Klaas, and Andrew Vaachs.
