I'm not going to bother with a quote. YOU read it. Anyone who isn't a "captain of industry" or "giant among men" is just fodder for the mill of the superior. Her intense worship of self breeds such contempt. It's innate, and it's the reason people like you always come off sounding like Nazis ("Silence, Schweinhund"!)
I think Rand's point was merely that nobody has a right to someone elses own money and property. Now their are going to be inequalities of wealth, but the non-producers do not have any right to someones else's simply because of that.
I dont see how this compares with national socialism. In fact i see it as just the opposite. The Nazi's used the power of the state to grant who were going to be the haves and who would be the have nots. Under Rands view point, the haves would be those who produced, and the have nots would be those who did not. The state was left completly out of the picture, even when it could benefit you. As in the example of Henry Rearden going on trial for not selling his metal to the government agency. Rearden would not sell his metal to the government or collect subsidies for not selling it on the private sector because he stood up for a principle. Even though he would of made a killing, it would go against the philosphy of selling your property/ exchanging goods, for a profit.
And i think we have a word to decribe people who dont believe that a person has the sole right to their own property. Oh thats right, we call them communist.

It always seemed to me that the French Revolution was a more socialist revolution.

...the Scripture verse says it's the "LOVE" of money that is the root of all evilI think it says that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil but I could be wrong. Just an observation.

"What's to back up?" Your claim that: "In Ayn Rand's mind, only "supermen" are worthy to live; the rest are beneath contempt." So come on Illbay; please back up your claim. You've read the books, haven't you? Back up your claim with a quote. You should be able to come up with somthing if you're so sure of your conclusion. As for your comments: "Most people not absolutely mesmerized by Rand's silly adolescent cant, think the same way I do--someone else gave 'Eddie Willers' in Atlas Shrugged as a good example." First of all, lets assume that you meant to write, most people that have read Rand's silly adolescent cant and are not absolutely mesmerized yadda yadda. Is it asking too much from you to actually provide the proof behind your argument? Or are you only capable of engaging in ad hominem attacks against people who disagree with you. The first time you did that you assigned me Nazi-like attributes, the second when you inferred that I'm just a "silly adolescent" and then later stating directly that I'm immature. The third is stating a basless claim that I profess what Rand wrote. I don't. As for your using the whole "most people agree with me, therefore I'm right" that's just another logical fallacy. I'm sure at some point most people on earth believed that the earth was flat. That does't mean that they were right and the people that could prove that it was round were wrong. As for my "shut up!" comment, well I'm sorry if I offended you with that. Maybe a more fitting comment would have been the American saying "I'm from Missouri; show me!"

Those are very good points. I remember being very struck by her philosophy after I read Atlas Shrugged. I still am very fascinated by how she understood how people control other people, but her philosophy will only take you so far. Chrisitanity is far better, IMHO. Ayn Rand still is a good read for people to realize how the Democrats,er...uh... I mean Communists worked.
