"How can any of us be superficial after that day " - we cannot.

Do I like that slogan - God and Country? Yes. But others won't.

I have to imagine that "History from God's Perspective" is just one big *sigh*.

Do you mean general quotations here (as in the Psalm I post on the Daily Dose) or do you mean, quotations of Jesus' words in our culture of today as a whole?

Well - I don't expect to hear His Words discussed publicly today - not until we "reclaim America" with the fortitude and self sacrifice of our forefathers who held a vision for our nation and the world - for the Glory of God and the benefit of all people.

We are, sadly, living in a "Post-Christian" era, by and large. However, as we discovered on 9-11 - even when our nation is moving further and further away from the scripture and from Jesus' Words in scripture and from the calling that God has on the Christians of this country to be the salt and the light here as around the world ----- there remains underneath all our modern day cynicism and narcissm and darkness - we as all people have a basic desire to know God, to be in touch with Him, and to magnify His presence with us even in the depths of our despair and grief.

I hear Jesus' words in my heart and mind every day:

"Come unto me, all ye who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest! For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly of heart."

Do you think these words "connect" in our day of propulsive violence both on and off the "big screens" that are everpresent with us????

Even if they don't connect easily - having them "connect" in the lives of those who belong to Him - a quiet strength, a humble spirit, and a "yoking" with the One who also command - "Take up your cross and follow me" ----- will bring redemption and renewal to this nation and to the world. Ever onward in Jesus mighty name but himble, meek, and lowly Spirit - available to all no matter in what condition they find themselves!

:-) Understood. Yet, even so, He is at work, No?

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul.
He leads me in the pathes of righteousness
For His Name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of death
I will fear no evil
For thou are with me.
Thy rod and they staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me
In the presence of my enemies.
Thou annointeth my head with oil.
My cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life
And I shall dwell in the House of the Lord forever!

The thought is nice though re: God and Country. IMO, conservatives are keeping an eye on the country for all the sheeple. If they won't vote for pubbies, then I sincerely hope that they stay home.

That was an awesome article. Reminds me of a saying that stuck with me from a book.

As He died to make men holy, so we may die to make men free.

My recollection of that verse in the Battle Hymn of the Republic is thus: "As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free."

IMHO, it is much more difficult to live for something than to die for it. The dying is once, the living is a continual process.

You're right. Let us LIVE to make men free. Isn't that what we are all called to do? As Christians?

And, surely, that calling was something our Christian forefathers and mothers understood!

One of the things I like about President Bush is his constant use of the word "Freedom". (Clinton only used that word to say - we had all these radical freedoms = meaning, I am here to take as many of these away as I can get away with doing). Anyway - President Bush I believe sees part of America's destiny as liberating captives throughout the world - setting people free!

Would to God he would be given the grace to do just that in places like Cuba and perhaps assissting in S. America with the people of Venezuela. But I digress....

Let us LIVE to make men FREE!
