"What's wrong? You don't believe in law and order?"

Of course I do and I also believe the punishment should fit the crime.

two weeks unpaid and a warning.

Nonsense. Someone who commits such a felony assault should get 1-5 (in real don't-drop-the-soap prison).

I don't see a lot of Freepers going on praising the cop for being punch happy.

I see one signed-up-today troll.

"Cops should in fact get double the sentence that a civilian would get. As law enforcers they should be kept to a higher standard."

Using your argument, I'm sure you'd agree that corporate accountants should also get double the sentence if found guilty of assisting currupt CEO's and CFO's.

One more thing, Ms. Libertarian,,,,illegal drugs have been de facto legal for years (see Elvis, Jim Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, et al).

The result of drugs on the above should be obvious to all but the blind.

And you want this stuff legal?

Legal drugs. Just one more insane Libertarian position...

Shigure--""If "most people" (namely those w/o badges) did the same thing it would considered a crime and carry serious consequences."

*BUZZ* Wrong! If a person slammed someone on a car hood in retaliation for getting his head spilt open no prosecutor would prosecute, no jury would convict and certainly no one would go to jail.

shigure--"the kid was lucky he didn't get his grey matter splattered all over the pavement. Maybe the cop should get a medal and a promotion for not killing the kid."

Ah yes, great hyperbole, mischaracterization, and distortion, just throw the race card in next time and your Al Sharpton immitation will be complete.

Your tune would be different if the assault victim was white.

I'm with you man. On furter reflection, I really REALLY hate to say it...but there is still that niggling bit of doubt in me that wonders if this cop would have roughed the kid up if he was white, and not black. We'll never know of course, and I don't know a blessed THING about this cop to know if he's that type...but on the other hand....racism does exist, even if people like "Shakedown" Jesse Jackson and "Bombastic" Al Sharpton blow it out of proportion.

I guess I'll always wonder....

As for whether the cop actually got hurt..I didn't notice any wounds on him. I'd have to view the footage again.

Oh please. Criminals kill people, rob them, shoot them, stab them, and assault them, everyday in huge numbers in this country, and you reserve "disgust" for this?

I don't want criminals on my payroll.

Not only are you a fool but, your post is transparent.

Seems like you are attempting to illicit a response, on this thread, that you can point to in the future and say "See how evil conservatives are!"

If I'm wrong, and you aren't a liberal disruptor, then you're just flat-out incorrect.

This officer stepped over the line and he should lose his job.  It's that simple.

I tend to not trust LEOs, however, if the kid had gone rigid, was bracing himself against the car, kicking at the cops, or in any way physically resisting his arrest/detention, as a general rule cops can use large amounts of physical force on a suspect to secure him in the squad car or jail. You can watch cops slamming, punching and macing suspects on videotape virtually every week on COPS, and none of those guys lose their badges.

As to the issue of retardation, how are cops supposed to know that? If it turns out that his retardation inhibited his response to the cops, then that actually works in the cops defense's favor.

An image can be worth a thousand words, misconceptions or lies. We do not see the entire event, we do not know what that kid did before the tape rolled, and because of that I reserve judgement.

The cop has been placed on leave and I assume Internal Affairs will get first crack. If no criminal intent is found then the kid and his family have resource in civil court.

Altogether too much attention is being paid to this nonevent, and not nearly enough to the terrorist attack at LAX on 7/4.

Thank you for the picture. I think that we all needed the reminder. The main problem isn't the cops. It is the people who see their brutality and ignore it, and especially those who are selective in their reactions to police brutality.
There was no outcry a couple of weeks ago when the officer who shot an innocent man was not charged. Contrast that with the "outrage" expressed all over the media over this recent case. Why is everyone so upset that this kid got what he deserved for attacking a cop? Where was the reaction for the eagle scout who was nearly killed for doing nothing?
In a perfect world, the public reaction to this case would be justified. However, when the country is overrun with trigger happy jackbooted thugs shooting innocents on sight, it is ridiculous to get "outraged" by an unjust beating perpetrated in anger against a violent criminal.
Yes, punish the officer who did it(and possibly the others who didn't move very quickly to stop him). Do not tolerate police brutality even in its milder forms. But save your outrage for true victims like the one in the picture.

Ah yes, now we have it all the card too!

Yeah I think you guys are right, if a white kid had attacked the cop, scratched his arms, gashed his head, he would have said, "oh well I was going to hit you but you're white, so I won't"

Who needs Al Sharpton and Maxine Waters when we've got you guys?

What is this place anyway is liberal republic?

A 16 year-old kid can kill just as fast as a 21 year-old. Let the cops protect themselves when necessary.
