One Commander stands out. He was a marathon runner, and as with many of them he thought running was the very best of physical conditioning. He didn’t smoke, drink, or eat “bad” foods.
He was also within a few pounds of being declared underweight.
He attempted to show the troops how knowledgeable he was by rigging a ten ton A frame hoist on one of our LARCs (amphibious trucks). He couldn’t lift the three wheel steel blocks needed. He really hated to call on me to do the rigging – but the troops loved it.
