25% or 1/4. If we could live without that 25%, we would have told them to screw off a long time ago.
We've had that system in place since the mid 70s.
I would love to see a 100% tax (minimum) on gasoline, with a corresponding reduction in other Federal tax revenue (income tax, etc.). If that means that the price at the pump goes up, so be it; It will go up for those who drive mopeds and for those who drive SUVs. I do not like the fact that the money I pay at the pump finds its way to hundreds of Islamic schools across the Middle East that teach children to hate and kill Americans.
Would I consider such a tax excessive? Hell no. What is your childrens' future worth?
Then why does most of it go to Japan???
If that were true, we would have already told them off.
The latest figures show that about 29% of our imported oil comes from the Persian Gulf. About 55% of our oil is imported, so far more than 6% must come from the middle east.
Lets say 17% comes from the middle east (that figure is probaly accurate plus or minus 3 percentage points). It wouldn't take a great deal of effort to wean ourselves from middle east oil. However, those who claim that driving their big fat asses around by themselves in big fat gas sucking vehicles is a right given to them by God will have to suck it up. We're at war. No sympathy.
Do you feel that your freedoms are that threatened by the existance of traffic laws, license, registration and an insurance requirement? You should be protesting that you have to drive at a limited speed. I think Rush and Detroit have a hook in your mouth. Both Rush and Detroit have you making goofy comparisons to freedom to go to church and "I have a right to drive what ever I want". Baaaaaa
I'm sorry. Perhaps you misunderstood me. I was meerly disputing your remark concerning the lack of a delivery system to the lower 48.
No, the ultimate goal is for you and I to share one forty watt bulb (per household), a rice bowl and a bicycle.
Gag.
