I don't think so. You'll need to prove that to me.

No, the Jewish vote is much more permeable than the African American vote. I met at a financial conference this weekend a middle class black that lived in Southfield, had considerable wealth, was very affable, his son was a lawyer, but he thought Coleman Young was a good mayor of Detroit and was done in by a lack of funding. I found that to be interesting information.

Seems like the promise of a nice Ambassadorial appointment should take care of this problem

This is hilarious, so in order to be more diverse the Republicans should support a liberal over a conservative. This is diversity run amok. So much for a colorblind America. The new rule seems to be discrimination is not only acceptable but its morally laudable, as long as the racial discrimination is directed against whites.

And my BEST FRIEND IN ALL CREATION, a Jewish guy from Chicago whom I met in college, said to me the day after the election in 1984: "How the h*ll did REAGAN win reelection? I don't know ANYONE who voted for him!"
It wasn't until a few years later, btw, that I realized he was echoing Pauline Kael's famous phrase about Nixon right along the same lines.
For him, this was reality.

The Jewish vote in America will be split down the middle at least this time around, from 90% jackass to about 50-50, which is still peanuts considering they make up about 3% of the total population, except they are big swing blocks in NY and Fla.
This Gilman story is small potatoes, the guy never voted with the GOP when it counted anyway, and he is only one of 435 representatives.
The GOP is going to make up for his loss in spades.

Well, that's good to know, but did you see what the REAL message of that article was? It is that not since the 60s, in the heyday of JFK and the Great Society, has Jewish support for the Democrat Party been higher.
You have GOT to be troubled by the fact that the Clinton-Gore team, the most corrupt and criminal administration in perhaps the history of the Republic, so mesmerized the Jewish voter.
Don't you see how hopelessly daunting that is?

The Jewish vote in America will be split down the middle at least this time around, ...Look at the link that Torie supplied in Reply No. 24, and tell me how the heck you arrive at that premise.

It is a documented fact that Reagan got 40% of the Jewish vote, at least according to exit polls.
Jews are not quite the "lost cause" for the GOP that blacks are.

But their parents voted for Dems and THEY will vote for DemsYou just dont get it, do you? Jewish Dems provide about half the soft money coming from individuals to the Democrat Party. If you peel off about half of the "significant" Jewish donors (there are about half a million in this country), then youve delivered quite a blow to the chops to Democrap fundraising. Thus all the angst over this rift among Party leaders.
Thats the real reason the Pubs would not write off the "Jewish" vote, or treat it as insignificantly as you do.
To: Illbay
....except that demographics do shift.
I'm glad Republicans don't write off the South like they did 40 years ago.

Bush junior and senior had their problems with Jews for reasons I won't bore you with. Bush junior will not have a headwind against him next time. I don't think very many Jews will view him as some sort of ignorant Christian bible thumper, which was the picture the bulk of them focused on last time. On this prediction I am quite confident: Bush will pull at least a third of the Jewish vote, and maybe half. Cheers.

I think Reagan got about 40% of the Jewish vote.He did in 1980. But for the usual reason: Israel. The Carter admistration had signed on to a U.N. resolution unfavorable to Israel.
Reagan only received 30% of the Jewish vote in 1984 after he allowed the sale of AWACS to Saudi Arabia. Never mind that the deal was important in helping bust the Soviets (AWACS for more oil=low world prices=USSR military complex starved for $$$). Reagan was working to free hundreds of thousands of Jews from oppression in the USSR. But that wasn't enough. He made one decision on Israel which was not popular with Jews and they withdrew support.
Eisenhower received 40% of the Jewish vote in 1956. But then along came Suez. Support for the GOP dropped to under 20% in 1960.
I wish a change were occurring. But I don't see it. I see history repeating itself. One wrong word or move on Israel and the "new" Jewish support Bush has now will turn into fundraising efforts to defeat him in 2004.

I didn't know Gillman was Jewish. I just thought he was a kneebiter.

That story is 2 years old!!!
The latest in thing among American Jews is to vote for the GOP, it's a fad like eating Chinese.
They are not stupid, they know who their friends are.

Nothing in that article about how the Jews would react to a Democratic party that has now (thanks to the internet and Fox News) been firmly established as Arafats cheerleading section.
I would think that the 1980 results alone prove that the Jewish vote is very much in play considering the circumstances.
They knew Carter was the PLO's friend.

Why switch?...There's little difference between the two parties and the liberals are getting more than they hoped for.
