Prayers for your family. I hope it's only the signal tower that's causing the problem.

I appreciate this, LVM.

Here's the info:

Need to contact Ed and Vickie Quesnel of Navajo Trail in Show Low. Family desperately trying to contact you; please call Barbara in New York and/or Russ in Texas if you can. If you can't call, contact the American Red Cross and/or law enforcement, or check in at a shelter, and they'll let us know you're OK. We are ready to fly there if necessary. We hope you are safe - love you.

Forgive me if I'm messing up.....I went back to that site and it OPENED for me...the part where you type in someone's name, etc to search. I'll keep the window open till you comment back. I "think" you said you couldn't access it.

Your family should be safe. According to local news radio reports in Tucson, the order to evacuate came late last night. They said that Show Low was a ghost town and everyone had left. I doubt anyone there would have argued with 400-ft flames.

You're not messing up, and I appreciate your good thoughts. The message board opened for me, but I could not leave any messages. I was able to search it, but the name didn't come up, so they're probably not at one of the shelters.

I won't promote the Red Double Cross, but the Salvation Army in Phoenix needs cots, blankets, and animal carriers.

(smile)

You don't know my brother-in-law very well ;) He would argue with Mount McKinley if it happened to get in his way when he wanted to walk somewhere.

And, he'd probably win the argument.

We were supposed to use our friends cabin in Show Low (it's a nice house, actually) over 4th of July weekend. We go up every year. So far the house is OK. It's on the E side of U.S. 60 just southeast of 260.

We know several families with homes in Heber, Show Low, Lakeseide-Pinetop. A friend's dad just lost his home in Heber this morning. Another friend's mom is in the Republic this morning. She wouldn't let dad go back and get his golf clubs!). I just love spending time up there. This is so painful for many of us in the valley because most of us go up there to get out of the blasted heat. And it's so beautiful.

Logging off for a while. Going to make the call rounds again - gotta keep some optimism. Thanks for your good thoughts.

BTW, does anyone know how far west 260 is closed? Is it all of 260 now? My girls are supposed to go to church camp at Christopher Creek in 3 weeks. I'm not thrilled about it anymore, especially since Paxon, the firefighter's spokesman said this won't be the last fire. And in year's past, this camp was not cleared out very well.

To top it off, my eldest daughter (she's going up as a counselor) told me before the fires even started they had all been ordered identical T-shirts in case of fire evacuation. I'm glad they were thinking about it, but I just thought, "Oh, great!"

Nope, they just showed films of Show Low on TV. If you haven't seen it, you wouldn't believe it. It's a towering wall of fire. Nobody is that crazy. Oops, correction: they just interviewed two families who were still there. One has left, the other plans to leave when the fire actually hits the outskirts of town. Gov. Jane Hull and a rep from US Forest Service just slammed on the enviro-whackos for blocking proper forest management, like building firebreaks and regulated clear-cutting I imagine, which would have which would have minimized this disaster. 185 homes destroyed so far.

Local Channel 9 news slamming on the eviro-creeps AGAIN. Urging people to contact their reps to change federal laws that restrict cleaning up this tinderbox. Probably the same PC news people who shed tears over the Spotted Owl a few years ago, urging people to prevent cleanup of this tinderbox. The idiots didn't learn from the Yellowstone fires 10 or so years ago. When will they learn?
