Just a little kid back in the seventies, but I remember the great team the Oriole's fielded with Brooks Robinson and Jim Palmer. In fact, I would grudgingly give Robinson the greatest fielding third baseman of modern baseball, though Greg Nettles was right up there. Those for me were the glory days of the game.

correction: hasta la vista bebes. The bitter attitudes expressed by the Mexicans interviewed also explains much as to why their country is a third-world loser. If sports and beating the despicable gringoes to the north is your reason for living, then what is your life exactly? Better to slam Americanos than to work and study to improve your country? After reading accounts of Mexican-Americans (?) jeering the Star-Spangled Banner before a soccer game in Los Angeles, their defeat by our stalwart soccerballers leaves me gloating over the Mexicans and their misplaced feelings of resentment and inferiority. If you think your lives are miserable because of the United States, you would be incomparably more miserable left to your own devices.

You sure hit the nail on the head. It's not just Mexico though. Lots of countries around the world today have chosen to adopt the loser's mentality. France isn't anywhere close to us, yet they suffer from the exact same inferiority complex toward us that Mexico seems terminally afflicted with.

Yeah, but even as noted a military figure as the Duke of Wellington stated that General Scott's Veracruz campaign was unsurpassed in the annals of military history.

The fact that he made an unprecedented night landing of 10,000 volunteers to attack Veracruz then shortly after Veracruz fell was forced to halt his campaign for a month because the enlistment of many of his volunteers was up (not to mention the sick and wounded) makes his victorious campaign all the more marvelous.  Santa Ana was consitently outmanouevered by Scott - even when Scott was forced by circumstances to give Santa Ana time to prepare.

It is likely that if Scott had been able to follow up his victory over Santa Ana in the defile outside of Santacruz, that he would have been inside of Mexico City within a week and the war would have ended then and there.

I totally agree...I have great childhood memories of old Memorial Stadium and "Oriole Magic". Camden Yards is a beautiful facility, but it'll never have the charm and character of the old ballyard...

U.S. soccer fans celebrate after their team's 2-0 victory over Mexico in their second round World Cup Finals match in Chonju, June 17, 2002. The U.S. soccer team's upset victory drew robust American TV audiences in both English and Spanish, despite the predawn hour of the telecasts, according to ratings released June 18, 2002. Not much of a soccer fan, but I think the US plays Germany tonight. They are heavily favored to win...

but ya never know.
