simple, because you WANT to see southrons as second or third class.
To: Poohbah
polyglot Baltimore was NOT a southron leaning city in the 1860s! Southron Maryland WAS pro-south.

To: Illbay
OK...your problem...just open that nasty, little Yankee mouth, to the wrong Southron, and you might just get an education..... You are pathetic!
To: Non-Sequitur
as usual, you are wrong! according to the city of NY, he was born in Brooklyn in 1836. his birth certificate is on file there.he was baptised at the old St. John's Church in NYC as well. Quantrell's family moved to Dover when he was a young child.
as for the spelling of his last name, the flag he had made in TX in 1864 spells his name QUANTRELL. one would assume he knew how to spell his OWN name.

yeah, in the same way wee willie klintoon was the 20th century's greatest president.
To: Illbay
as usual, you by your own words, condemn yourself as an anti-Southron BIGOT!

You know I find it flat, freakin' amazing that every single one of Quantrill's biographers got his birth place wrong. They all state that it was Dover, Ohio while you, and you alone, discovered New York was his home town. What do you attribute that to?
To: Non-Sequitur
LAZINESS on the part of his "biographers". and NOT checking PRIMARY sources.
the historian of Dover says she thinks his family moved there about a year after his birth.
i'm eternally fasinated about how SLOPPY the research is in many so-called "history books". many writers simply copy an earlier books data w/o checking to see if the data is CORRECT!

Everyone is sloppy except you, is that it?
To: Non-Sequitur
NOT AT ALL; but MANY are sloppy and arrogant.
ignorant, hatefilled, leftist,extremist,mean-spirited, scalawags and damnyankees tend, i have noticed, when they write "history", to be that way. i wonder if their sloppiness is intentional OR if the intent is to DECEIVE?

Or maybe it's that they are right and you are wrong? Or more likely you are confusing Quantrill's uncle with Quantrill since that man did live in New York?
To: Non-Sequitur
was Quantrell's uncle born in 1837? i doubt it, though i have a dear friend who has an aunt who is 22 years YOUNGER than he!
let me give you ONE simple example of the sort of SLOPPY research that is all-too-common in "scholarship" = several years ago, a book was printed about the battle @ Ft. Pillow. in the book, the following appearred: "----in 1863 numerous foreign "advisors" visited both the Federal & CS armies during that year of 635 days" ---- an OBVIOUS TYPO, but that same phrase appearred in SEVERAL "learned" works!
