It's time we give our border patrol some serious firepower. At least some machine guns, grenade launchers and perhaps some TOW missiles.

Horrible idea. They go out there hot, then there's going to be a firefight--who would you put money on, moderately-armed and trained Border Patrol, or combat-equipped Mexican military?
No point in going half-@$$ed. Send out the Guard, or the Army.

Controlling our borders and immigration is of paramount importance! Pretending that uncontrolled immigration, at levels well above those that can be assimilated is good for us is C-R-A-Z-Y. It isn't good business, either--it is cost shifting. We get cheap grapes picked by illegal labor, but have to pick up education, medical costs, and welfare for whole families of illegals.
If Bush wants to have documented guest workers, that's OK with me IF the border is sealed and their families stay home.
And, the Mexicans aren't the main problem--its the Arabs. They Mexicans mostly want to make a living, and some want back the Southwest. That's bad enough, but the Arabs flat out want to kill everyone (eventually including the mostly Christian Mexicans).
Another issue: If you come in as a play-by-the-rules worker on a visa, you and your employer go through all sorts of difficulties, and you wait in line for citizenship for ever. If you sneak in, there may be an amnesty waiting for you. Better yet, if your pregnant mother tours the country while she gives birth, you are born with dual citizenship. There was a post several hours ago about an industry catering to South Korean birth-citizenship-toursim.
This looks like it won't stop short of a major extreme reaction (I think it would be called right-wing in the current simplistic political naming dialog), possibly a near-dictatorship. Can't we do it through our current system?

That's a tough one.

I presume this the same guy Karl Rove tried to intimidate when he (Tancredo) spoke out a couple of weeks ago.
Y'know, as great as Rumsfeld is at defense, we may need him to take Karen Hughes' place even more. This assumes that W is getting only a bum steer from Rove. If this administration doesn't do anything about our borders and illegal immigration, and especially incursions by Mexican soldiers(!), it will eventually see its approval rating drop like Bush The Elder's.
Of course, we would need someone at Defense who can face down Colin The Appeaser. I can't name anyone at the moment.

The Mexican government was indignant about Tancredo's letter.

That's what I believe. It seems inconceivable that the govenment of Mexico would intentionally pick a fight with us.

I'd give it to the more ruthless and better-armed and equipped Mexican force.

Unless the U.S. and Mexican government admits these incursions exist and take action to stop them, then an international incident, in my opinion, is foreseeable," concluded Tancredo. Both governments are liars.

How about rotating a couple chopper-loads of Marines in and out of the border areas? Consider it "desert training" for when we go after ol' Saddam.
Does anyone seriously think the Mexican army is invading the U.S.?
This is silly, Tancredo.

If incursions never happen, neither does anything that might happen to them while they are on this side of the border.

It will not be done by the Bush Administration unless it is against Americans trying to protect their land.

I suspect that they know they are safe enough from a federal reaction.

"Does anyone seriously think the Mexican army is invading the U.S.?"No, dumba**, Tancredo doesn't think they're "invading" us (the word he used is "incursions")....they're just violating our border at their will, shooting at our citizens and border guards, etc. Nothing to get upset about, right? It's not like this has been going on for a few years now, right? It's not like there were 23 incursions in the year 2001 alone, right? Wake up and start paying attention.

"If incursions never happen, neither does anything that might happen to them while they are on this side of the border." Unless they get thirsty. Or maybe have to have a mocha shake and if not we will compensate them for damages. < /sarcasm>
To your comment, great point !

No point in going half-@$$ed. Send out the Guard, or the Army. The NM National Guard was helping the Border Patrol, but I read that they all came back home about a week ago and aren't helping them any longer. I was wondering why they would stop when the threat of terrorism is so great. Juarez, Mexico crosses into El Paso, TX and it's a straight shot up to I-10 east or west or I-25 to I-40. Then the illegals can go any direction they want. This year NM LEO'S have caught large numbers of illegals. They send them back to Mexico, and they are back in the country again before the ink dries on their deportation papers.

According to a U.S. Border Patrol Agent, the Tohono Oodham Police Department encountered a Mexican military incursion on Friday, May 17, 2002 An unamed source quoting an unamed source and Tancredo thinks that we have an act of war against us?
