You talk like church-lady.

There's nothing particularly slutty about thongs - they are worn with sleek clothing to eliminate embarrassing panty lines.

What's really indecent is lifting girls skirts to check their panties.

Pulling up an underage girl's skirt to look at her panties, by school officials will NEVER pass muster. VP will very likely be fired or furloughed. This will result in an attempt to settle out of court, by the school board to keep THEM out of prison and endless public accusations of perversion, scandalous notoriety and repetitive expensive legal appeals.

The lawsuits surrounding this event will proceed EVEN AFTER there are out of court settlements. People don't like having their daughters molested, or their chastity or morality denigrated or even questioned, it won't stand in civil soceity.

The "she deserved what she got, because the way SHE was dressed, she was just BEGGING for it..." won't fly in the USA. Perhaps in talibanist Afganistan.

Checking for presence and type of panties, will NEVER be tolerated in American society. The person who undertook this ill-advised activity WILL very likely be charged and very possibly convicted with a sex crime. I suspect a long term mental institution status awaits the perpetrator.

Count on it.

I'm late to the thread, but as a teacher, I'd bet that it wouldn't have occured to the vice-principal to check out the underwear had there not been problems at previous dances with girls "letting it all hang out".

all that means is he or she logged off and cleared their cookie for later. It happens ALL THE TIME, for some folks have to, when they share their computer with others, sign off their screen name for that time. It does not mean they were banned, got flustered or chickened out.

I sign off for WEEKS at a time particularly when work calls me away. Not everyone signs in all day, every day, every week, month and year. Some of us, have jobs that dictate our appearances places other than here.

i have discussed catholic school on this thread because that is where my kids go.

Yep. That's where I went too. I didn't mind it at the time, but now I wonder wether that may be where my basicly contrarian nature comes from. :)

I would have stated no thong underwear allowed. If it became visible as such at the dance ( by the girls dancing or twirling or what ever ) at THAT point they would be ejected from the function and possibly disciplined with detention or some other appropriate punishment. It is not Nazi Germany to have SOME reasonable standard of dress and decorum at a school function.

Well, I guess girls shouldn't shave their legs. I mean, guys might think you want to have sex if your legs aren't hairy, right?

"If you had a 13 year old daughter, you'd probably feel a lot different

i agree with you completely. having a teen right now, in this environment, makes a world of difference in outlook on this, in my opinion."

Yep. I am probably old enough to be realpatriot's grandma but I still have young kids. I've been happily married for 23 years. My perspective and my priorities are very different because of that - very different than realpatriot.

I have seen the culture change from the 50's through the 60's to the present. There is social decay but most seem too obtuse to recognize it. And the problem of teen girls wearing thongs to highschool compounded by the school official abusing them in a voyeuristic manner, (laughable as it might seem to some on the surface)is a microcosm of the greater society.

"What the hell is wrong with the girls??? They should have just turned and walked out."

This is an important point...why didn't they say no and report this immediately?

And that social decay is due to risque underwear!

You've got it backwards... and you have to look at it in the context of teens.

If your high school age daughter was sent home from a dance for wearing thong underwear, would you be mad at the school or at her?

I have a simple solution to this whole mess: No dances. Seriously. Why should a school be holding dances?

BINGO! We have a winner here folks. Outstanding post B Knotts.

I'd really like to see someone answer this question. Personally, I think we should do away with public schools, but I know that idea won't go over well with some Freepers.

But what possible justification is there for forcing taxpayers to fund a dance for other people's children?

I haven't read through 500 posts, so may be repeating. The rules on proper attire should have been established BEFORE the dance. The WOMAN who raised the skirts probibly knew the girls would lie to her if she just asked, but it wasn't the best thing to do.

What really gets me are those of you who say "I would sue them if they did this to my daughter!". What I think they should do is have people at the dances with video cameras, go around videoing all the bare-asses flashing, then show it at the next P.T. O. meeting!!!

BOR, with all due respect, providing for the Common Defense means having citizens educated enough to create, maintian, and use the weapons of modern warfare.

Why do you assume there would not be enough educated citizens for the military without public schools?

No one is suggesting that we get rid of private schools, home schooling, or tutors. If people didn't have to pay taxes for public schools, they could use that money for private alternatives.

I'll admit, a small percentage of people would probably go uneducated without public schools, but those same people probably aren't getting much out of the current system. Even without public schools, though, I think we'd be able to find enough engineers and mechanics to support a modern army.
