"And it sounds to me you would much rather have convicted child molesters walking the streets in anonymity, where they can continue to harm kids. "

Heh heh. By that logic, I'd have to accuse you of someone who favors releasing child molesters from prison, rather than letting them rot there 'til they die.

Severely punish the molester - not his gramma or his uncle Ned. It's that simple.

"Really? Then put your money where your mouth is,"

The google search came up with so many that I wouldn't have time to compile them here.

"Megan's Law" + "mistaken identity"

Right.

You know as well as I no one in their right mind WOULD want to see pedophiles released to re-offend. Personally, I would much rather see them (a) put in prison forever, or (b) shot in the head at point blank range with an AR-15.

But we have to deal with something called reality. And the reality is, in general, there is not a single state in the union that keeps a sex offender of that caliber behind bars for eternity. Like it or not, they will get out. And chances are, they will reoffend.

So why is it so unreasonable for a parent to know who the boogeyman is and where he lives?

The safety of our children must come first. Period.

Bravo! Very nice!

But that tactic is not gonna work here. Sorry, Charlie.

You cited specific examples about Megan's Law, to wit:

...Grammas porch gets set ablaze, dad get's beaten with a baseball bat, or mom's kitty gets hung from a lamp post.

You then followed that with:

Those are the documented results of Megan's Law.

I asked you to back "those documented results" with citiations. You did not do that. Instead, you gave me a link, as if to say, "Look for them yourself."

So let me put it to you plain:

If you are going to make such allegations, you had better be able to back it up. If you cannot, and you have not been able to thus far, then sit down and shut up!

If you're too lazy or stubborn to click your mouse pointer on links that prove my point, then you don't want to debate an issue, you just want to argue.

This is the internet. URLs are considered valid references. You don't wanna look at 'em, it's your problem.

Exactly. And squishy liberal feel-good laws that do nothing but cause confusion and instigate vigilante-style vandalisms and beatings against innocents do nothing to make kids safer.

My examples were hypothetical. If you had bothered to follwo the links on my google search, you'd have found stories of vigilante murders of innocent people mistaken for child molesters.

Like pedophile priests transferred to other parishes, Megan's Law simply moves the pedophiles to other neighborhoods. Not a very productive way to legislate child safety, especially if your kid visits that other neighborhood one day.
