The prime minister said that upon withdrawal, the army would establish buffer zones between Palestnian and Israeli areas Excellent
might I suggest this should be :
· The Golan Heights
· The Jordan River
· The Gaza Strip
· The Sinai Peninsula

How stupid it was for the Bush administration to try to force peace by bringing in Powell now. He should have waited until Sharon finished the mission. Then ask Israel to pull back...and begin attempting a political resolution. Stop the terrorists...then seek peace. Americans can relate to that after 911. Sounds like someone has Bush by the.......

I agree. This hypocritical policy is outrageous. I am extremely disappointed at Bush for this. This is the
Vietnam approach to "settling" the dispute versus what a military solution would be.
Let Sharon kill each and everyone of them. Peace through strength, not weak-kneed Colon Powell BS!

Someone should ask Bush how many days it's been since the last suicide bombing. It's working damn it!

What makes you think Powell was sent to enforce a pull-out?

For the record, the Israeli military budget is almost $8 billion per annum. The US supplies roughly $2 billion. Israel gets another $750 million in other assistance. Israel does not depend completely upon the US for her weapons, but produces her own tanks, small arms, aircraft et al --a very difficult proposition for such a small country.
If you are interested, and I know you are, here is an article that points out some of the benefits to the US from this military aid.
US Military Aid to Israel"

Why should Bush be participating in their war?
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
Mr. Sharon has got it EXACTLY RIGHT!If WE hadn't stopped WW11 before it was over,We could have avoided"The Cold War","The Korean War(A Police Action)",and"The Vietnam War"!!Politicians should Declare War,The Military should decide when it's OVER!!!!
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
"Why should Bush be participating in their war?" I guess 9/11 hasn't changed everyone's minds, nor has it made people wiser.

Assuming you feel we should be assisting Israel, why do they need us?
To: Tumbleweed_Connection
Powell called for "a clear statement from Israel that they are beginning to withdraw" from Palestinian territories and said "to do it now." I guess I've missed an important event in the Middle East. When and how were "Palestinian territories" set up? That's tantamount to there being a Palestinian state. Of course, maybe Powell has a different historical viewpoint.
In any event, Israel acquired those disputed areas as spoils of war from Jordan, etc., just as nations have been acquiring territory for millenia, and just as the Texians took Texas from Mexico. I also don't recall the Arab states ceding any territory to the Palestinians nor do I think Israel has.
