and so why install ethics that are supervised by the highest and independent instance, the UN(the only way ethics work), when you can be the biggest animal in the woods, right? If an organization where Mugabe and Castro and Quaddafi have an equal voice with Bush and Schroeder and Blair, is the only way ethics work, then we're all doomed. The UN is no better than its constituent governments. Its constituent governments are, on average, scum.
mr. professor, does your 'ex-nazi' argument point in the general direction of 'even if jews do bad things, you should not critizise them because of what you did in the past.'? how stupid. just because i see the other side, that does not mean i a some kind of extremist. but if you approach this conflict as simple and black/white as most of you here, the only solution will be to kill all palestinians and give all the land to the israeli. and that might sound wrong even in your ears, hm?
I lived and worked in Germany for a year. I think the psychology is more complex than that. I think there is a tendency to belive the Israelis guilty of atrocities, because then the Gemrans can say to themselves "OK, Germany did some horrible things to the Jews, but give the Jews a chance, and they'll just do the same to somebody else. They're no better than we are".

Fascinating to imagine the incongruity of a pseudo rightwing professor even at Harvard, a school I fortunately had the sense not to attend, even at the age of 16, although I indeed did attend one of those Ivy League /tower schools. I currently have the sense also to apply literacy to ability to read, and literature, in fact, not the ability to talk which virtually all humans have and which freedom of expression I carry on here.
As to your comprehension, please note that I did not infer nor imply that in 1930 Palestine was partitioned. Please work on your abilities to comprehend. Needless to say droves of Jewish immigrants continued to come in waves, which aforementioned British report indicates was already unsustainable, but greed continued to prevail, no doubt., in the course of this land theft, if paid for later , no doubt at prices comparable to which Arabs paid Jews for their land in their states.

Exactly what is civilized about Sharon, the murderer of 1,000s, and many Jews with him now, their former intelligence minister declaring their acts illegal, thus criminal,. and throughout this long period, with their secret terrorist organizations, too, such as Irgon, Hamas etc. created to oppose them later, and the militaristic Zionists under Vladimir Jabutinsky., who created the Haganah terrorist organization. Learn the history, folks. Labeling any group civilized does not make it so, ditto the opposite term.

Actually, the Palestinians' lands were confiscated, no price paid them.

Israel has used AGM 114-D air-to-ground rocket made by Boeing and Lockheed-Martin in Florida fired from Apache helicopters and AGM 114-C made in Georgia to kill innocent civilians in Palestine. I submit this in hopes of adding to the discussion on this forum. Just wait until the Israelis use their really heavy weapons like the PIG-225 made by Jimmy-Dean in North Carolina.

Which Ivy League school did you attend? Do tell....

I'm sorry. It is a tough, competitive admissions process, and a lot of people 'have the sense not to attend' after they get those disappointing letters. But I'm sure Brown or whatever provided you with far more education than you were capable of assimilating.

I'm sure you intended that to be a coherent sentence. Here's a word of advice. If you can't handle the complexities of subordinate clauses, write simple declarative sentences. Nobody will think any the less of you for it. In fact, Hemingway turned it into a career.

I think boltfromblue should be encouraged to submit his comments for consideration to the following:
"Professor Butler's first-prize sentence in the 1998 Bad Writing Contest appears in "Further Reflections on the Conversations of Our Time," an article in the scholarly journal Diacritics (1997):
The move from a structuralist account in which capital is understood to structure social relations in relatively homologous ways to a view of hegemony in which power relations are subject to repetition, convergence, and rearticulation brought the question of temporality into the thinking of structure, and marked a shift from a form of Althusserian theory that takes structural totalities as theoretical objects to one in which the insights into the contingent possibility of structure inaugurate a renewed conception of hegemony as bound up with the contingent sites and strategies of the rearticulation of power."

They're no better than we are". what i see is a war. on one side arafat and the terrorists, on the other sharon and his army. both sides have broken peace treaties countless times, the arabs with bomb attacks to 'regain their homelands', the israelis with sending settlers into arab territory and then 'having to defend them'. fo course both are wrong, but what i see is on the one side a strong military that attacks cities and on the other side single persons that blow themselves up. i dont believe arafat is able to control these guys any more. and i think sharon just knows what he does. contrary to rabin, he never believed there could be peace. so he wars for peace until the other side is down. as he answers every bomb attack with strikes against palestinian territory, undermining arafats authority even more, peace is next to impossible. when you think of what a way the peace process had gone when sharon came in charge, its a joke. why do you think i hate israelis or jews? there are still jews in my neighbourhood and the worst thing one of them has done to me was refuse to be my girlfriend. but i see a man bent on solving the crisis with war, and that way there is ony one end to see for me.

Is the US desire to be the only arms merchant about $$ or about policy?

Pallies like weapons "Made in America" too. They even steal M-16s to get them. I'm not going to go back and find my link to the story. It's out there.
