"Well, the answer to that is most of us can figure out our ancestry if we want to. We can trace people. In my family we can do it. We know who the slaves were and we can go all the way back to the plantation," Berry said. Sorry, it doesn't work like that. Blacks often like to poitn the finger at the Jews when they talk about reparations. The facts are that holocaust survivors had to show proof that they were under nazi occupation. What's more, only the victims got paid, not their families. So the topic is moot. Unless they can show us a living ex slave.

I am in favor of giving reparations to anyone who has even a slight tan. Every last person with skin that is not transclucent and paper-white gets 40 acres of land.
Of FEDERAL land.
Any time federal land ends up in private hands, wealth is created. Capitalism thrives when the government owns less.

I'll pay my reparations after I get my reparations from the British for driving me out of Ireland and from the _____, well whoever drove my relatives out of Germany (maybe just close proximity to the French).
God Bless

Tell them to look for reparations in Africa.

Good Lord This reporter is demented!! Calling Mary Frances Black "distinguished"!! MFB is a racist thug!
No cajungirl, I don't know the status of the legal battle between the White House and MFB's hostile takeover of the Civil Rights Commission. All we can do is keep searching the news.

Listening to the distinguished academician, lawyer, and chairperson of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Somehow they left out her accomplishments as Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Je$$e Jacksons crony.

Whatever happened to the flap over the civil rights commission. Anybody know? If you are referring to the black man who the Clinton appointed judge shot down, I think it is under appeal.

she can grab her 40 acres in Zimbabwe or Azania. They can shoot the poor dumb white farmers who have the gall to try to feed blacks.

Don't forget the mule!!!Al Sharpton is an ass, so they already have one.

I'm not able to remember the source, but I recently read where the "black" economy in the US, if standing alone, would be the 14th richest economy in the world. It seems that slavery (although despicable) actually allowed the decendents of slavery an opportunity to become far more educated than most of those now living in Africa. No gain without the pain.

Just a few questions...for those who had relatives that fought and died as part of the Union Army, shouldn't they be included in the payout? Secondly, how do we calculate the value of 38 years of subsidies, handouts, grants, preferences, lowered expectations for college entry, on and on...can we include that as part of the tab already paid? Just asking...I mean, maybe we'll get a refund.

I'm all for paying reparations to blacks if they agree to pay whites for the damage they have done to this country in the form of destroying our once beautiful inner cities, our once good public school system, the murder and crime they have caused. I bet I would end up getting money!

Reparations are part of the unfinished business of the civil rights movement, said Mary Frances Berry, guest lecturer in the first installment of Beach Institute's 2002 series on reparations. Huh? Since when has the civil rights movement been in favor of reparations to the descendants of slave owners?
