The casing, explosives, and physics package have probably broken down after 44 years. There isn't an absolutely perfect solvent, but salt water comes pretty damn close.
Hell, you could probably look right at it (assuming it's not buried in the muck) and not recognize it, because stuff GROWS on submerged objects.

The bomb's reminants might be more easily detected by using highpowered underwater Geiger Counters or whatever they are using these days. Taliban and al Qaida have money. I'm inclined to believe that such scanning equipment is not out of their price range.Water makes a very nice radiation shield--you'd practically have to trip over the damn bomb before the Geiger counter goes off.
