when one studies up on how slavery really was in the Old South, they can't help but think that we, in modern America, are far more the slaves than anyone ever was in the 1800s.

As many have mentioned, Lincoln didn't end slavery, he began the process of extending the institution to everyone.

Rosemary Roberts is the worst columnist I have seen in the history of anything. I've been reading her work since at least 1993, and though I've tried my darndest, I can't remember a single original thought that she has articulated in any of her articles throughout that entire period. She does nothing but parrot the liberal/politically correct/Clinton/Democratic party line. There's no analysis coming from her, no "let's consider this," just a blind espousement of the same tired cliches and defense of liberalism.

The fact that the News & Record's management has kept her on for so long, should indicate something is seriously amiss with that management.

It's kinda hard to find now: look beneath the main body of the review itself (not the quoted HTML from the News & Record website). I posted that in the author comment field, that's why the bookmark button is showing up in between those.

Was a pleasure to have done this. Anything that can possibly be done to get the word out about the shenanigans that went on (and are still going on) around here needs to be done. Just glad for the opportunity to have done a lil' part in that :-)

Thanks Buddy. I got it!! I started studying the "War of Northern Aggression" while in 7th grade in 1959. While I was born in the north and have been a Westerner most all my life, I'm a true Confederate at heart. That feeling came within the first few months of study. The South was truely wronged for decades and the abuse is intensifying again.

There's a guy in Asheville by the name of H.K. Edgerton. Of all the characters I met while living in that town, he's the one who comes to mind best: a former president of that area's NAACP, he's now a staunch defender/advocate of the Confederacy. And he goes to amazing lengths to keep the heritage alive: I darn nearly crashed my car the day I saw this black man, wearing a Confederate officer's uniform, holding up the Confederate battle flag outside a school in Asheville. He was protesting their suspension of some kids who wore the flag on their shirts.

Increasingly, the true story of blacks and their role in the Confederate army is becoming known... and as bold as it is to say, but appreciated, too. Let this present generation of hatemongers - the Jesse Jacksons, the Al Sharptons, the Sheila Jackson-Lees and the Clintons - let the earth claim them and their entire generation's wretchedness. When they are forgotten, the true history will have, at last, a day in the sun.
