I agree, although I'm not sure it's desparation. It is more likely poor taste born out of any number of negative emotions or character traits.

Having participated at some point in this kind of thread I admit the practice is unbecoming. I try personally to target actions with humor, but am sure that I've not always done so. Had Miss Chelsea done something to deserve ridicule (ie Alec, Rosie, Hillary, etc.) it might be less off-color, while still being questionable. Actions and words are fair game.
