I like Colin Powell & I'm glad he speaks his mind; But I can't help noticing that if this man Powell were not black, then many here would say that he is an anti-semitic bigot or a closet nazi for merely criticizing Israel. If you criticize a political candidate for being rich and out of touch, then you are anti-semitic; if you are a jewish person who criticizes Israel, then you are a closet Arab. The accusations of anti-semitism made in public life are frequently ridiculous, but I know Powell will be immune because he is black.

For his part Rep. Dan Miller, R-Fla., severely criticized Israel. He said Israeli vigilantes were blowing up Palestinian installations.
Rep Dan Miller, hmmm. Interesting comment. Will see what response he gets from the adminstration.

on other threads, if a white person criticizes Israel, even with constructive criticism, it is always said that the criticism comes because the person is anti-semitic, a closet nazi or is really an Arab. They don't address the criticism itself, only the source of the criticism and assert that this person is anti-semitic. That is not happening with Powell because Powell is black. You are wrong, you are dealing with us in bad faith to say that, what do you think we're stupid? All you have to do is read any other thread where the article criticizes anything about Israel to verify what I said.

The author this piece editorialized a bit. Powell did not say Sharon's plan "will not work" as they author claimed, but actually said Sharon must look hard at his policies to "see if they will work". That's not quite the same thing, is it?

Who said he was anti-semitic? Is that your attempt at "heading them off at the pass" or something?
The fact is Powell is wrong. IMHO, the PA has backed itself into a corner with this violence. If they relent now, and bring the intifada to an end, they will be seen as the losers of the war. And indeed it is a war, as the PA itself has ordered some of these attacks by their own admission. One side has to crack, one side has to blink first, unless Powell or someone else can come up with one heck of a face saving initiative for both sides.

So far, the proposal is being described by Americans and Saudis as a vision, not a blueprint for peacemaking.
