Is it not insane to believe that you are the highest form of life in universe.

I assume nothing. Give me EVIDENCE.

I'm afraid you can't paing all "religionists" as you call them with the same broad brush. Many won't condemn you to hell as they believe that is up to the God they believe in. Many believe that how you treat your fellow man will have a bearing on your ultimate fate, while others feel quite the contrary. I react to extremism from both religious fundamentalists and from "atheists." My point is that the guy driving around with a fish with legs bumper sticker has just as much relious conviction in his belief that there is not God or that religion is evil, as the guy driving around with a fish without legs on his car.

I personally prefer to stay out of the fray. And as people have pointed out, those pushing to eliminate God entirely are also responsible for much evil and murder (Stalinist Russia, Red China... Virtually all Communist "Anti-God" Totalitarian States). I hold the evil men and women responsible for atrocities in this world, not religion or lack of it themselves. Ultimately, religion that is co-opted for the purposes of evil is quite often done so by non-believers themselves. They just find it a convenient tool to manipulate ignorant masses. Perhaps this, and the extreme fundamentalists is what you are reacting against. If so, great. Just be careful not to become an extremist yourself "on the other side."

He was/is God. He (God) became a man and died. He didn't have to. He did it to save us from sin. I think he did a wonderful thing and I thank him each day-MM

I realize that you posted that to show that Hitler wasn't necessarily an atheist. Doing so does not counter my last argument in any way however. I would argue that most who believe in God would certainly disagree with his statement and thus, you can't use this as a proxy for believers. I've already suggested that you can't really use Stalin as a proxy for non-believers either. The back and forth nature of this type of argument proves my point most of all - that man is basically evil. I am not willing to suggest that God, or a lack of it is responsible for the evil we witness. Rather, the evil is basically just the nature of man. Without religion, these things would not go away. We would base our hate, killing and general inability to get along on other things like race (as we already to to a great degree), height, geographical location, level of wealth, etc. etc.

You will have to search your own heart for the evidence after careful consideration of the scripture. If you sincerely look and I am correct you will eventually find it. If you are correct and there is no God then people owe Stalin, Hitler, Mao, ect apologies because there is no objective right and wrong and no higher law.-MM

Why isn't the British press all in an uproar over this? They were so 'concerned' over the treatment of the scummy terrorists in Cuba. Where are they now? Same goes for the sniveling leftists in this country as well.

This story is obviously BS. Islam is a religion of peace. The President told us so. They wouldn't allow something like this to happen. Would they?

I was wondering about that too...very strange this MUST be a mistake!

" Is it not insane to believe that you are the highest form of life in universe."

You have falsifiable evidence to the contrary?

More to the point, do most atheists belive that they are the "highest form of life in the universe"? I certainly can't make that claim with absolute certainty.

Why would people owe Hitler, Stalin, Mao or any other despotic ruler any apologies for condemning their acts even if there is no objective right and wrong?

Odds are there are other intelligences out there. But they are certainly natural, not supernatural.

I understand what you are saying but this:

The back and forth nature of this type of argument proves my point most of all - that man is basically evil.

I don't agree with. Man lacking a moral philosophy can be evil, but one does not need religion to adopt a moral philosophy.

You can't have it both ways. Emperical evidence leads us to the evidence that the human is the highest known form of life in the universe. Faith leads us to God. Got ya.-MM

There is nothing in nature to suggest anything that can or would exist outside it.

There may be aliens out there - statistically it is likely - but the burden of proof for the supernatural lies with he making the claim.

You do realize that the President is trying to call Muslims to a higher standard when he says that, right? You do realize that it is a ploy to keep the war focus on terrorism and not religion, right? Tell me you understand that he is trying to keep religious peace in this nation as well?

Annie, thanks so much for clarifying for me what the goal really is when GW talks about Islam as he has. The man has more wisdom than most of us give him credit for.

They wouldn't. No one would owe anyone anything, nor be bound by anything other than the limits of his/her will to power...the important question for those who look elsewhere than God (if there is such a thing)is whether justice is a human construction--and therefore whether it would be binding as such--or if justice exists due to some other non-supernatural cause.
