I think you are a bit to harsh Race. During the bad old days between Reagan and GW, Rush was the leader of the conservative and Republican movements. With the exception of a couple of years of the Gingrich/Contract movement Rush (alone) spoke up for us from a national platform when no one else of any consequence could or would. We at least owe him our respect.-MM

A dear friend of ours lost his hearing, I cried a bucket of tears for him. When this dear friend of ours, through wonderful technology, regained his hearing I cried tears of joy for him and for us. I for one love hearing him talk about it. Put yourself in his place or listen to another station. I don't want to sound belittling, but put things into perspective man.

Here are my thoughts on Rush.

I see him with the milk and meat metaphor eyeglasses on. I consider myself very conservative, with a bit of libertarian thrown in for spice. Rush usually does bore me. Mainly because I have moved past the milk he serves up. I am eating the meat from Free Republic and other places.

However, Rush's milk is all that much of the masses can handle. They are not yet ready for the meat that most of us here digest. I think that Rush provides a great service to the conservative cause by delivering the milk he does.

Most of his 20 million, as well as the rest of the country, is not ready for a discussion on Rand, or the constitutionality of public schools, or the nature of the Civil War and its impact on today's society, but ten years ago I wasn't either. But they may be ready for a discussion on football, including a discussion on why we pay these guys more money than school teachers because people are willing to pay to watch them work. They get a small lesson on economics today, and get hungry for meat later. If so, more power to Rush, and someday, more converts for us.

Anyway, that is what I think.

If you will notice, the conference championships and Super Bowl garner tons of attention. Rush is a football fan (Steelers, yick!). ;-)

Therefore, he talks about it. After next week, you won't hear him speak about it much more until the next NFL season begins.

I'm sure Rush, like me, will be going through football withdrawals. Can't wait for spring training!

GO TRIBE!

Forgive the rant....but I am so tired of hearing of how Rush was handed life on a silver platter. He was not!

The first time I met Rush was at a reception for him prior to one of his two RUSH TO EXCELLENCE appearaces here in Humboldt county. I was stunned by the fact he was a total wallflower introvert and was drinking a Diet Pepsi. Having met personalities who wre very obnoxius and self centered he was most humble. His two trips here were underwritten buy a dozen small businesses and KINS Radio and were sell outs.

I remember he did a commercial for a local Dry Wall Company. Boy was I jealous.

I am not going to deny that RUSH is who got us started, and I mean FR was started because of the influence of Limbaugh, too, but to think he is independent of the Republican Party in thought and belief, that is a grave misconception people have.

Some here say, "Sure he is critical of Mccain, isn't he republican?"

That is the easy way out. Where is Rush on the Clinton crimes now we have a Republican in office?
Where is Rush now that we have a Republican in the Attorney General's office?
Why is Rush defending the amnesty program for illegal aliens?
Where was Rush calling for the expulsion of illegal aliens after 9/11?
Where was Rush in calling this latest education bill just another step in government intrusion into education?

Know where he was? He was Practicing Ronald Reagans 11th commandment: THOU SHALT NOT SPEAK ILL OF OTHER REPUBLICANS.

And, that is why he is wrong. Party affiliation is wrong. We need to have decent people in office, people who stick to their word, not just which way the wind blows, and we certainly should not support the policies of a president who is trading illegal aliens for registered republican aliens!! We tried to impeach Clinton fo that same thing, only now that we have a republican in office, this is ok??

' And, by the way, I listen every day. in fact, I am the guy who met Mike Mamoine in the American Museum of Natural history in 1988, I am the guy who gave Mike Mamoine the phrase:
MORE FUN THAN A HUMAN BEING SHOULD BE ALLOWED!! RUSH GOT THAT FROM ME!!!

Party affiliation is wrong? For whom and by what standard do you say that? Are you suggesting we do away with political parties?

I don't know. Does it matter?

My point is, life is too short to worry if Rush is a true conservative, or if Rush sold us out, or if Rush spends too much time talking about golf, football or whatever.

Rush is an entertainer, with a bias. I happen to agree with the bias, and I happen to enjoy it when he pokes fun at the other side. But he is not an elected official, and he owes us nothing other than entertainment. If he stopped being entertaining, people will quit listening, his ratings will go down, and he will be off the air.

Do I think this will happen anytime soon? No.

Enjoy Rush for who he is, but don't complain if he is not doing what you want him to do.

I thought he stole that phrase from Letterman.

Anyway,Rush is first and foremost,an entertainer.I remember,on more than one occasion,Rush saying that his show was about HIM,not politics....he went on to say that if he was interested in stamp collecting, that he would talk about stamp collecting for 3 hours, and be successful doing it...not an exact quote, but close enough. And I think he could do it.

Party loyalty over common sense is certainly wrong, I'll word it like that. Why are we being supportinve of a Republican Party that refuses to show backbone and go after the crimes of the last 8 years??

Name one conservative policy that was implemented this past year that had an effect on America in a positive way. The $300 rebate? If Bush wanted to stimulate the economy, he should have dropped tax rates across the board immediately. My state is in a recession and has been for the last 6 months, I know, I was laid off 4 times since June by companies that only needed workers on a temp basis, then out the door!

Wages have dropped like pancakes for those looking, too. It aint good here, and the reccomendations that I move look better all the time. I blame the liberal Republicans in Ct, and the liberal republicans in DC. The only thing that might bail out CT is this new defense budget, except, the larger defense plants here shipped over 40% of their manufacturing base to Communist China!! (PRatt & Whitney, Hamilton Sundstrand, to name 2)

As for as conservatives go, the other radio personalities that you name should not even be allowed to stand in Rush's shadow, and what is with this class warfare crap your trying to bring up about Rush being a millionaire. You sound like a demoRAT. I, along with most conservatives, will not trust anyone who badmouths Rush the way you do. Its plain to see that your on the wrong side of the fence.

I appreciate your upset but am not willing to abandon the only mechanism available for moving the ball down the field in the right direction. As a graduate of The Ohio State University in the Woody Hayes era, I understand the concept of "3 yards and a cloud of dust" incrementalism. It's been just under a year (and we're at war) - I'm not expecting miracles.

But if you don't like the "R" party - move to impeach this president, abandon the party and see what you're left with.

To Whomever: Rush is Rush. As he always says, it's his show. And, if can't talk about football the week before the super bowl and hint that he's doing a special on espn, then excuse me.

As far as his hearing, he got so many emails from people concerned about him and he wanted to explain different aspects of his treatment to people who probably have similar problems and are considering having this type of surgery.

I think it is a public service that he is talking about his hearing problem(s). I found it heartfelt that he thanked his wife for always being there for him. And, above all else, Rush is one of those rare people who loves life itself. I listen to Rush to listen to Rush, wherever he happens to end up talking about. It's kind of like hearing from a friend.

Of course, I don't listen every day because I have lots going on including this new office chair from Office Depot that is going back tomorrow. The seat isn't long enough front to back and I'd rather upgrade and get a chair I can kind of slouch in or lean back in. There is no reason for me at home to have perfect posture. There's no boss standing here dictating over my shoulder. lol I WANT TO SLOUCH. See? That's what Rush does. He tells us about himself and that is endearing.

He'll get back to politics and he did say he is not announcing when he has to spend time at the doctor because he is not milking this, just explaining this experience which involved some surgery on or near his brain. Wonder if it was tied behind his back at the time. We have to let people be themselves instead of picking them apart. Floriduh Voter
