If there is physical room for the old drive in the new machine, there's no problem. Just set the jumpers right. Get help if you don't know what this means.

BUY ONE WITH AN AMD PROCESSOR!

Well, it's not that simple. Benchmarks aren't everything. I am researching to try and find the right system to build, and that may be AMD. But the problem I'm having (in building a first rate digital audio (and video) workstation -- for music and video production) is that Adobe apps (Premiere) may not work too well with AMD. The conflict seems to be that the digital video pros recommend Intel, and the music guys can go either way, with a slight lean toward AMD. So I'm sorta stuck until I figure that out.

I'll copy the other one and allow the software to recognize the drive.

I thought you had to use the MP chip and run the operating system that supports that, such as Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000 Pro!

I am close to getting an AMD Dual also using the Tyan MPX MOBO!

js1138 share some of your experiences with the Dual AMD, please!

Some of the hardware review sites (tomshardware.com, maybe others) suggest that the AthlonXP will do go dual as well as the AthlonMP. I'm sort of wondering if any "real people" have done it successfully.

Yes, you have use Athlon MP CPUs, and they cost extra. I use Win2000. It detects dual processors on installation. If you are replacing a motherboard on an existing NT or Win2000 you have to run a utility to upgrade the operating system.

I don't know of anyone besides TYAN making dual AMD motherboards. I bought mine from tccomputers.com.

The TYAN board requires registered DDR memory. Not everybody offers it. I got mine along with the motherboard. Got registered ECC chips. You have to go into bios update to enable ECC.

My motherboard came with the CPUs installed and the (massive) volcano heat sinks attached. The board wasn't packed with enough bubble wrap, and the heat sinks actually broke the motherboard. The system was replaced but it took a month to get the various credit charges straight (I didn't have to take any action, just wait for it to all sort out).

Did I mention the system rocks on Autocad? My son uses it for 3d rendering. I wouldn't recommend it for gaming. More of a workstation/server machine.

Couple more things. These puppies run hot. I got an aluminum case with three fans, and a 350 watt power supply with two more fans. My previous effort at a dual processor machine -- a PIII/550 machine had to run with the case cover off because I couldn't afford a good server case.
