Back in '73, Camp Lejeune, Force troops --my friend gets a letter from his dad congratulating him on getting his third strip and informed him that his brother in the USAF had also just got a promotion, to Captain.
His Dad's letter went on to say that now he (with his 3rd strip) and his brother (with Captains Bars) have finally become equal. SO off we went to the NCO club (the one by the bowling ally for you old lejeune jarheads) got plastered, got into a fight, wound up in front of the provost marshall and called his brother for legal advise. :-)

One of my favorites is a saying I read in
Black Hawk Down--"When the going gets tough, the tough get cyclic."
Terrific movie, BTW.
