"national security expert."

Pike and FAS are very knowledgable on defense issues. You can of course disagree with his positions, but downplaying the level of expertise because of his positions is wrong. Your argument falls in the category of "red herring", I believe.

Pike and his associates are Leftists working the media to "bell the cat" and undermine America's position as a superpower. Of course you can disagree with my position but read up on Pike before you're so ready to accept his position. He's very clever, so be wary.

Cuba's 'Axis' Listing a Cover for Other U.S. Goals ***In its global survey of WMD, the Federation of American Scientists states that Cuba does not possess nuclear or chemical weapons, nor are there credible reports of Havana's efforts to acquire them. The FAS notes that "Cuba is generally regarded as having a program of research on biological warfare agents, though the scope and focus of this effort remains obscure and controversial."***

I know the history of FAS -- among it's founders were some allegedly anti-war members of the Manhatten Project. Of course the Manhatten Project was full of russian spies as well. Therefore it is a safe assumption that FAS is full of marxist types. As I said, disagree with the motivation, not the data.

When someone has a pedigee like this: [ THE UNITED STATES INSTITUTE OF PEACE -- He [Pike] has served as a Technical Consultant to the United Nations Group of Government Experts on Confidence Building Measures in Outer Space, as well as to a variety of other government and corporate clients, including Cable News Network, National Public Radio, Universal Studios and the British Broadcasting Corporation. He advised the 1984 Mondale campaign, the 1988 Dukakis campaign, and the 1992 Clinton campaign on defense and space policy issues. He is frequently called on by print and broadcast media for commentary, and by Congressional Committees for testimony, on space and national security issues. ] I have to be suspect of their product.

When they do this [Pentagon Report Discusses Nukes - John Pike posts national defense information on web-- On Wednesday, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld publicly lamented the disclosures and said the person who leaked the information had violated federal criminal law.] I question their patriotism.

Thank you so much for providing this background re: Pike.

I've always disliked this guy for his left wing perspective on everything but now I know that my guy reaction was correct!

Why does the media think John Pike is a "national security expert

Good question. Lets extend it to: Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolfowitz, Perle, Ridge et al.

In Pike's case, he knows a lot about the hardware and who has it.

As to those I mentioned......well.....a businessman, academics, a governor. Experts all, of course.

I'm just funny I guess, I like my security experts to be thinking about a strong U.S. not about a strong U.N. Pike is a LIBERAL activist.
