There's an excellent article in last week's Boston Phoenix (available here) that details why Reich has almost no chance of getting the Democrat nomination here. Mass (like many other states) is still steeped in old-style politics, where you need 15% of the delegates at the party convention to run in the primaries. The delegates are selected by old-style ward bosses, union leaders, etc., and therefore the only people with a prayer of getting on the primary ticket are Mass insiders whose party loyalists are already lined up. His only chance is cutting a deal with one of those insiders, as once you get your 15% you can "release" your delegates to vote for someone else...i.e. whoever can offer the sweetest deal. But Reich is unlikely to even be on the primary ticket. This is most likely a bid to raise his local profile in hopes of challenging for a Rep or Senate seat if/when one opens up.

Swift has made so many boo-boos while in office that I think her re-election will be very tough. I'm not sure, however, how Reich's arrogant, "I'm smarter than you", style will play in most of the state. I find it hard to believe that many around the "Bahston" area will cozy up to him.If his name was O'Reich he's be a shoo-in.

Mr. Reich will be much, much better! Too bad that homosexual Republicans prevented Silber from becoming a governor. Hopefuly Weld's legacy will end this time.

I'm not defending Robert B. Reiiiiiicccchhhh's run (indeed, I'm hoping the fine people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts leave him more than a few votes short), just his height.

Given the state of Massachusetts' liberal leanings, the GOP needs all the people they can get to actually win elections. Not a good time to promote the divide-and-conquer mentality in the Mass GOP and try to run out the "RINOs".

Of course, the REAL RINOs are people like Jesse Helms, Trent Lott, and Bob Barr -- the ex-Democrat segregationist sympathizers who have helped turn the GOP into a party that Theodore Roosevelt or Abe Lincoln wouldn't recognize.

I suggest a FREEp to Reich (his e-mail is reich@brandeis.edu) and tell him you won't vote for him if he has the most corrupt president in American History, Mr. Bill Clinton come and campaign for him (as the Boston Herald reports he plans to do). Of course, that only works if you are in-state, but others can FREEp a message that they will come & protest with signs & chants if he brings in Clinton to campaign for him.
