>>My personal belief is that as long as the stability of China is ensured, any type of government is tolerable.

The stability of China is in the interests of the US. The Taiwan issue is the key problem China has with the US and this problem could be very dangurous if not properly dealt with since it is linked to the most sensitive nerve of the Chinese people, nationalistic sentiments. When Chinese talk about "national humiliation", there is no room for "rationale". They will be talking about "blood" or "sacrifice". The only reason for the military confrontation between China and the US is Taiwan.

The only confrontation now. As China's economy expands it will obviously expand its sphere of influence as well, its already doing that in south and southeast asia. After Taiwan it will be something else, because the ultimate end of China's economic boom is off course to have east asia under its sphere of influence, the U.S will not willingly pull out of asia, so there will be conflict.

Expanding economic sphere of influence is something that all coutries will try to do. Japan's economic influence used to be spread to all corners of the world, so what? In terms of territory, I dont think China is an expansionist in any sense.

The Spartly in South China Sea is what China has been claimng for hundres of years. It's not something new. Taiwan has alreay occupied the largest island for over 50 years after WWII. It's legacy of history.

It depends how you define "sphere of influence". East and South East Asia have been under influence of the Chinese culture for over 2,000 years.

You bring up some valid points especially their population numbers compared to ours. That is why it is so damn traitorous what that scumbag Slick Willie allowed the Chinese to have. He had the opinion that all countries should share the responsibility of Nuclear power, what he failed to understand was that these people will not be responsible with their new found power. They will hold it over us like an executioners axe, if they ever attack us we will have no choice but to annihalate their @ss instantly.

It [Red China] extends its definition of terrorism, however, to include Christians and Buddhists as well as anyone who dares to question its repressive system.

Excellent post. Too bad more people don't see both the regional and global threat that the ChiComs pose. I think some either corrupt or idiotic US policies have emboldened them with real technology advances in the past 15 years or so.

Wars are fought over resources.
This is all about Caspian oil and Afghan opium production. The Chinese will need the Caspian oil and are jockeying themselves in Pakistan to control the terms of the pipeline. If the Pakis and the Indians nuke it out, the competition for that oil is lessened.
Who controls the 200 million man army? - Who are the "kings of the east"?

Thanks for making the point that China looks inside the borders and outside its borders in the same way in this case.

"I think some either corrupt or idiotic US policies have emboldened them with real technology advances in the past 15 years or so."

Of course, Fred is being polite this afternoon. What Fred means is - treasonous filthy bastard, Bill Clinton and the delusional DNC - sold all our nations nuclear secrets to China - for hundreds of thousands of dollars - via the front doors of the White House - carried in by Communist Chinese agents, John Huang, Charlie Trie and Johnny Chung! Huh All!
