Pierce is right in more places than he is wrong here, but this is where he is wrong:Protecting its citizens form foreign invasion is the foremost legitimate government function. This government is doing a god-awful amount of illegitimate or purely evil things, both domestically and internationally. Fighting a preemptive war on the 9/11 bombers and their organization, however clumsily, is still the legitimate government function, supported by the Constitution and by the just war tenets of natural law. One who, like many authors at lewrockwell.com, rattles off a long litany of grievances against the government without any attempt to distinguish between legitimate and non-legitimate grievances can get only one response:
Je m'en fout.
Gee, Rockwell criticized? Shock! Horror!
Why is there so much criticism of LewRockwell.com? Reposts like this don't help, but consider antiwar.com. One may disagree with it and hate it, but it is likely to bring some new information. That information may not be entirely accurate, or it may be used in misleading ways, but there is something to be learned from the site sometimes, provided that one keeps ones eyes open and doesn't simply accept things one reads. I suppose that's true of the snippets from other papers that LewRockwell.com links to, but it's hardly true of the original contributions Rockwell puts up on the web. It's simply the same thing over and over and over again, with little new information to back it up. It's an unchanging view of the world that takes little notice of changes in the world outside. If you agree with it you can call it standing on principle. If you don't you can call it living with your head buried in the sand like an ostrich. That's one reason to dislike Rockwell. You can still hate antiwar.com, though.
Secondly the Rockheads have too much of a chip on their shoulder. They think they know in advance of any research or hard thinking what the answers will be. For that reason, we also know what answers they will give. And we also know that they won't do much research or put much effort into their writing since they think they know all the answers in advance. So why bother reading their articles? That's another reason to dislike lr.c.
Yeah, and?
Unfortunately, many Freepers tend to be knee-jerk types, and ANY criticism of Republican or Bush administration policies gets harsh treatment. And there is much to criticize in what comes out of this administration mainly because, from the Libertarian viewpoint, there's only a dime's worth of difference between the Republicans and Democrats.
And it's snowing in Buffallo. Nothing more to see here..
Yet for some at least of the Freepers, there is a serious disconnect somewhere between getting the information and processing it.I would respond, were it not for my serious disconnect between getting the information and processing it. How insensitive of you to draw attention to it.
Stay safe, friend.
One of the great advantages of living in Never-Never Land is you can imagine you are a bold, famous writer when in reality you are a waste of bandwidth.
But it is a great country and ain't it grand whether at LR.com or FR.com or even at Dems'r'us.com, or whatever they call themselves, that we can all sit around and voice opinion in the finest keyboard commando style?
God Bless America and Happy New Year!
