What's funny about this is that the son would rather that the government get the money, than poor ole ANS.....look, do the math.....a $400 million estate would be taxed at about a 60% combined rate ( fed and state)...very round figures.....but if it goes to her, it qualifies under the unlimited marital deduction....no taxes due...

Your math seems right, and it's a great pity if the feds get any of this guy's money; but there's something you're missing. Even if he only got his after-tax share, that's still 40%. If the widow gets it all, the son gets zilch. So 40% is better than nothing.

What turned me around on this topic was the revelation that Anna rejected his advances at first. She was a stripper in a nowhere bar. He chased her. She posed for Playboy, and was Playmate of the Year. He kept chasing her. She made a splash in Hollywood, did bit parts in movies, and developed substance abuse problems. He kept chasing her. She fell out of favor in showbiz. She finally let herself be caught. If the record shows that she was the sole heir, so be it.

Anna Nicole Smith -- bodacious, busty, and nearly brainless -- would be challenged in a will regardless of whether the family had billions or not. In severely dysfunctional families, this schtuff happens.

Your post #31 made me LOL!! I loved it!!

BTW, in this girls opinion, Anna worked for her money. You can't have beauty like that unless you've got the $$$, and he did, and she deserves it because that was the deal.

The problem is that the old man did leave almost everything to the son in his will. She claims that he orally promised her 1/2 of his estate, but the will is clear. She got (and the family isn't disputing) a lot of money, jewelry and a ranch in south texas that is worth about $1 million. She's the greedy one that is seeking the other $500 million.

Personally, when I'm 90+yo, I hope that I can make the same deal Marshall did.

Thanks. I agree with you about her getting the money too. I don't know if she 'earned' it per se but it was his money and he can leave it to anyone he wants. I understand his family's being upset about it, but that's life sometimes.
