Good Morning, T-Gulf. Happy Christmas to you.

At every holiday I pause to remember the friends who have served in the military so that I / we may enjoy the holidays as free Americans.

I began to take note of these warriors and peacekeepers when I was in college, in the late sixties. I had roommates in college who went off to Vietnam and didn't come back to the states ... went on to heaven, directly; had to have gone to heaven 'cause the letters I got back then described Hell and you know the 'been there done that' attitude of good helo pilots.

As I grew up more, I began to realize that a lot of members in my family and my wife's family had served in WWII and Korea. I started to realize the sacrifice of others so that I could enjoy my freedoms.

To the current stand of American warriors: SA LUTE! Thank you, thank you for being the warriors that insure our freedoms. Here at home, we will strive to do our duty to honor this nation you defend. Would that all American citizens recognized duty, honor, and country along with you.

Hubby put in 25 years. Loved it too, and complained too, LOL. We still go on base to shop and see the doctor.

A funny thing happened when we moved here. My daughter lives in North Carolina had not seen the home we bought when we retired. I mentioned to her that we had gone on base to the commissary to stock up on food. Her reply was priceless.

She said, " Base? What base? You mean you guys live near a Marine base? I should have known you two would not get to far away from a Marine base. " LOL, I hadn't thought about it, HA! Once a Marine always a Marine.

Merry Christmas!

Thanks, Tonkin....already hit the Operation Dear Abby page a couple times. My 8 year old daughter will be doing it later today.

Seeing this kind of thing makes me feel that the time I served wasn't wasted at all.

I have sent off my letters to all services. I'd like to share with all here the text of my message.

"My hope is that my small effort here gives comfort to all who read it.

You do not know me, but you all have volunteered to defend my freedoms at the cost of yourselves; be it family left behind on a holiday, a child left to open Santa's gifts without you there to see their faces, or just being with friends to celebrate in whatever way you choose.

Having done this, you have given me the greatest present that has ever been given.
I am able to sleep securely tonight, knowing that you are on vigil for me. I will cherish this gift all my life; and I will not forget this gift, nor will I allow others to forget as well.

When you come home, and you will, you will find a different America waiting for you. No longer will the selfish whinings of a radical populace be heeded, or given any thought other than contempt. Your sacrifices mirror those Heroes of Ground Zero, and the reflection does you proud.

Be well and safe this Christmas/Hannukah, and find Joy in the coming New Year, for you bring a new spirit to America, and thus, the World.
May G_d keep and bless you and your families, and may G_d bless America."

I remember well having the honor of standing the watch that ushered in Christmas morning. I considered it my gift to the folks back home so they could enjoy their Christmas in peace and freedom. Now, as one of those back home, I want to thank our troops with all my heart.

Semper Fi bump!

While I was on active duty, I inspected survival rations and "K" Rations that were canned BEFORE the Korean War and extended their usability time. We removed the juice cans because the acid in the juice had reacted with the tinning and made the juice really taste funny. The meat, cake, peanut butter, crackers, gum, cigarettes (yes, they were full of what would be now relic cigarette packs) and candy were still edible. This was 1977. The MRE's are sooo much better. The survival rations never go bad. I still have cases of them, they are in a spam like can and have everything from cereal bars to fishing line. I have them stashed in saddle bags when I go off on a long horseback ride. Both me and the horses will eat them.

AbsoluteGrace thank you with all my heart. Those that are serving will appreciate it so much.
You know AbsoluteGrace, our military is trained and willing to fight so hard for each of us. But the hardest thing for them is heing away from home and America.
Emails, snail mail and packages mean so much to them.

THANK YOU AbsoluteGrace SOOOOOOOOOOooooooo MUCH !
