Pat, as usual, pulls some Buchanans in his answers. Buchanan, as usual, would go hand in glove with Sjirinovskij. They could grow turnips together and fight each other for the pig. Or the cow.

Did you read this article. I doubt it. It is a great, insightful read that not many could do. We could have signed GW's name to it all all would have said a masterpiece. Just shows the so-called pubs are the same as the so-called dems. So noe that I'm not withya I'm aginya. Is that the mentality today?

Very good piece.
Pravda.ru has become a favorite site of mine. It's fun to see ourselves through others' eyes.

bump!
Buchanan gives some interesting insight... we've all known this for a while though.

Let me say right from the outset:
Pat Buchanan is a kook!
That said, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. In many of his answers he is right on especially when it comes to Yugoslavia and the Patriot Bill. But when he starts ranting about America fighting Israel's war he's off base. His positions on international trade are not simply archaistic but plain old wrong.
I really used to like Pat before the screws came loose. Again, he is correct most of the time but the things he's wrong about, he's very wrong.

"If I were President -- an idea the American people enthusiastically rejected"--LOL
"Most of us have no interest in ruling other nations. We have everything we want or need right here in Gods country, the U.S.A."--Except oil, dope, and natural resources?
He's definitely in the inevitable "clash of civilizations" school.
An interesting read.

Pat Buchanan is a kook... when he starts ranting about America fighting Israel's war he's off base. How so? Do you think Israel isn't doing everything possible to try to get us to support them in a war against the Palestinians? He's not necessarily saying we should or should not, he's just pointing out that this isn't OUR fight and we shouldn't let our selves be dragged in by an outside influence. Just like in Kosovo. I say he is absolutely right on both counts.

"Except oil, dope and natural resources" (?)
I beg your pardon? America certainly doesn't need "dope"; the fact that you seem to think we do makes me wonder about your point of view. BTAIM, we certainly have more oil now than Germany and Japan had to fight WWII; Germany especially got by mostly with coal, and we have more of that than any other country on earth, enough to supply our present energy needs for over 100 years (surely long enough to come up with some new resource and or technology).
What "natural resources" do you consider us wanting? Aside from coffee and chrome, I believe America is more than self sufficient; in fact, we export raw materials and food to most of the rest of the world.
Just where would you prefer to live?

Sorry you believe that someone is a kook for not wanting to fight Israel's wars. Israel has the right to defend itself however they want, whenever they want BUT THE US SHOULD NOT BE INVOLVED IN ANY WAY.
We should be neutral and not get involved in the world's infinite wars of trade, religion, land, or politics. Our involvement in the wars of others will only bring these wars to our shores. Buchanan is for America first, last and only and that is not being a kook.

Interesting interview. I read the entire thing earlier on Drudge's site. He makes some very valid points on demographics. Europe (and Russia) are indeed facing a demographic implosion, exacerbated by immigration from outside of Europe. I also agree with Pat that it is only a matter of time before China makes a move on Eastern Siberia. Pat Buchanan says things that disturb some people. I certainly don't agree with him on everything, and I didn't waste a vote for him, but he's dead-on when he notes that portions of the American Southwest (SoCal in particular) are in the process of being reconquered by Mexico. As Pat said, invading armies eventually leave, but immigrants don't.

Pat was, obviously, a Presidential candidate at the time he made that speech (actually June 23, 2000). I'm sure that he would stand by the comment today but, to actually put his quote is context, he was referring to the Islamic community's support of shared family values and belief that abortion was wrong. You also failed to include the remainder of the sentence: ". . .in an age when I see our country going in the wrong direction."

"Islams influence is on the rise, and I believe the influence of your community in this country is positive, it is beneficial and it is desperately needed" Pat Buchanan, speaking to the American Muslim Council June 22, 2000 Of, course, that was a pre 9/11 speach. How many of us have the same view of Islam now as we did prior to 9/11? President Bush's "Islam is a peaceful religion" utterances took place after the attack. That was particularly ill-timed pandering that many Americans won't soon forget.
Buchanan addressed many points in this Pravda interview. What do you think about them? Forget the messenger. What about the ideas?

He would have made a great Senator where a contrarion kook would do some good. I like Pat enough to let slide his mild kookiness. I would never vote for him for Pres but I would listen to every speach he gave.
