How much is a "punch cup?" Is that less than or more than a standard cup?

Tears. I am in tears that was so funny! LMAO!

FWIW, I don't bother with complicated eggnog recipes. There's a pretty good packaged version put out by a smaller dairy around here, and I mix by the cup.

BADFREEPER'S LAZY EGGNOG

1 oz light rum (I use Appleton's)
2 oz Irish Cream (I use Bailey's)
1 oz Grand Marnier (I suppose one could use Cointreau, but why?)
1 cup store-bought eggnog
nutmeg
whipped cream
cinnamon

Pour rum and GM into directly into glass or mug you plan to drink from
Pour Bailey's into separate glass
Add eggnog to Bailey's and stir well with a small spoon or whisk
Slowly pour half of eggnog mixture in with booze and stir or whisk
Add remaining eggnog mix and 1/2 tsp nutmeg and stir or whisk
Top with whipped cream and sprinkle cinnamon to taste

Serves 2. Or Badfreeper. -HIC-

It's about a 4 oz, I would imagine. You generally serve this in punch cups, as it is potent.

That makes sense, with the brandy and all the other hooch included in that recipe. Geez, why not just drop a raw egg into a gallon of Everclear and be done with it? ')

"How do you eliminate the risk of salmonella if you use raw eggs?"

God, there are nannys everywhere. Take a little risk now and then!

ROTFL--
You could do that, but it has its plus and minus:

It sure would be easier to make,
BUT it wouldn't taste as good (at least the first glass wouldn't).

For a non-alcoholic alternative, but equally enjoyable on a cold winter evening, I heard this BEST EVER RECIPE FOR HOT CHOCOLATE on the Glenn Beck Program:

(repeated as best I can remember it told)
5 pints light cream
12 Hershey candy bars (the "regular" size, not the "fun" size which everyone knows are not any fun)
Heat up the light cream.
Stir in broken pieces of candy bars.
Drink while hot, because turns to candy and butter if it cools.
You'll sleep like a baby, and you'll be thankful for this recipe...your heart will hate it, but you will love it.

Hey wait, there's more than one cooking step in that re-sip... AND actual measurements... I can't handle that, dude...

I'll be the first to tell ya, I ain't much of a cook. At all. I eat Bush beans and Campbells chunky beef stew, the kind you don't even add water to. And for when I gotta carb up for running for something, I will make pastaroni. This is a great culinary feat for me because it involves the amalgamation of multiple ingredients in a prescribed manner over a time span greater than 5 minutes. (Thinking about it, I am pretty durn impressed with myself, actually... [back pat])

So when I want eggnog I hit the ABC store around the corner... How's THAT for lazy nog...

But how do you get the booze in it??????

Sorry for the complicated directions, but unless mixed carefully, the booze makes the packaged eggnog curdle. I did convert into US measurements though! I don't actually measure out everything exactly, but I thought it might be helpful. You could always use airplane size bottles! Might cut down on the measuring!

Bwaha... If ya get it at the ABC, it's already spiked, dude... Here in VA, wine and beer are sold in groceries and quick stops and whatnot, but liquor, by law, is sold by the ABC (alcoholic beverage something-or-nother) which is run by the state. I think this is f-ed up but oh well. One can get pretty decent pre-mixed eggnog there. *I* like it at any rate.

Ah! I thought ABC was a convenience store or something. If you think that's f-ed up, take a trip to Ontario sometime! You can only buy alcohol at provincial government owned liquor stores. There is no beer and wine available at groceries or variety stores. The Beer Store network is owned by a co-operative of breweries (before being renamed "The Beer Store" they had the catchy moniker "Brewer's Retail") and there are a few privately owned wine shops operated usually by vineyards. Otherwise people buy their wine at the liquor store. Some of the larger liquor stores have a section known as "Vintages" which actually has a really good wine selection.

IIRC, the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) is one of the largest wholesale purchasers of spirits in the world and their buying power means that even with the higher sin taxes, the cost of booze isn't too much higher than places without sin taxes. I don't really mind the government liquor stores. Billions and billions of dollars in profits go right into the provincial treasury. When the Conservative government started privatizing some services, they took the liquor stores off the table because of the profits. Then they cut income taxes.

Yeah, BC is such an easygoing place...that wouldn't happen here. It's illegal to give away alcohol in Ontario. They still have samples at the liquor store, you just have to pay a token amount, usually a quarter.

I worked at a bar once and we almost lost our liquor licence because we gave away shooters as prizes for trivia and dance contests. We switched to giving out cards good for $5 off the food portion of your bill.

"Cream must be thick & beaten until as light as eggs, add last & mix thoroughly."

Beaten = whip

Sorry for the confusion. I typed the instructions exactly as written from the almost 100 year old recipe.
