Actually, no, Hanseen does not make Pollard seem like a "choir boy". Pollard sold our nuclear codes and target coordinates to the Israelis who sold them to the Soviets in exchange for "Jewish" (caucasian) immigrants. This was back in the 80's when the nuclear clock was near midnight. Casper Weinberger was involved in the sale. His Swiss account "number" was reported to be KPFBMMBODE at the Union Bank of Switzerland. reference (I got no idea whether is accurate)

i always thought opus day was merely a very conservative catholic organization whose main forcus was returning to latin services and the primacy of the pope. i didn't realize it was very political. it does seem to be cloaked in secrecy, it's rare that you hear anything about it. now i'm really curious, i'll check google or dogpile.

Yup, and there's nothing clean about Opus Dei. Seems to be some sort of nazi-harboring, drug-running, spook supported "Catholic" cult (ok, organization). Just do a search on google and see what you get.

A sophisticated and informed intellectual in our midst, I see. A major problem with your assertion is that not only every single pope in the last 50 years has lauded Opus Dei (none more so that the current pope), but also Mother Teresa herself -- the world's best-known example of what most people considered an actual saint -- thought very highly of Opus Dei.

About 15 years ago, John Paul II attended a meeting at which both Mother Teresa and the then-head of Opus Dei (Bishop Portillo) were present. The pope turned to Mother Teresa and asked in a kind of teasing manner, "Why does the press speak so highly of your nuns, but constantly criticize Opus Dei?" Mother Teresa replied, "Because God loves Opus Dei more."

When the founder of Opus Dei died, one-third of the world's bishops and 90 cardinals petititioned the Vatican to begin his process of canonization. This is not the stuff of cults.

About the only clean Catholic institution nowadays is the Jesuits (Society of Jesus).

Oh, okay. I guess for some the most acceptable Catholic institutions are those that are in full-blown decompensation.

Mother Theresa? Nasty old crow that worshipped death. Nothing wrong with contemplating death if you're a mystic in a convent or a monk in a cell. Asceticism works very well for achieving different states of mind. Nothing more effective than starving yourself and depriving yourself of sleep if you want a shortcut to mystical visions.

But it's very innapropriate to demand that others undertake the same quest. It should only be done voluntarily. The taliban tried to force a country. Bad news. Mother Theresa was similar. She was a nasty authoritarian that wallowed in death while doing little to alleviate the causes thereof. Read what Christopher Hitchens said about her.

You're much better off reading Mircea Eliade than the verbose tripe put out by dead institutions.

Forget the "official" saints of the self-agrandizing beaurocratic institutions popularly referred to as religions. Read what real saints have to say.

Thank you for your response. In light of your -- forgive me -- somewhat eccentric view of both people and events, and considering your sentence structure and thought organization, I have one quick question:

Did you forget to take your thorazine today?

I think they were trying to contrast the seemingly upright persona with the spying for athestic regime persona. I.e. the guy is nuts.

But who knows? We know that no blow is too low when whacking Christianity is concerned.
