That's insane! As opposed to the other choice, Algore???
Those people sitting out the election for the reasons you sited above was a direct endorsement of Algore. Absolutely stupid reasons. It's one thing to feel that way, but actions speak louder than words.
Those people can thank US, who voted for Bush, who had no doubt he was the right candidate for being in the White House today.
Only in that you could consider the oh-so-respectable Tom Landry on the sidelines "worse" than the muddied Clintonesque quarterback who actually runs the ball ... simply because the man in the hat calls the plays.
Abortion is a GOP policy.
I'm a pragmatic idealist. We cannot outlaw abortion except in cases where the mother's life is in danger right away, but we CAN start working at the edges, and building the consensus to reach that point now.
Why not work the edges? What is wrong with getting small chunks?
Don't kid yourself.
If you believe in the alchemy of pragmatism you're a utopian, not an idealist.
You DO realize that Clinton reduced the budget, and the number of "federal employees", by underfunding the armed forces right?
Did not replace a single piece of ordnance, no pay raises for the troops (many articles about our armed forces needing welfare to support theor families), and no repair/replacement of equipment?
George W. Bush is a great president. I don't think that we could have known how solid, how moral, how strong he was prior to the election, but he is going to go down in history as just that.
As president, he can't fix everything overnight that eight years of radical liberal rule imposed. I think, after a year, he has made remarkable progress.
Part of that progress is working to change the hearts and minds of the American people on moral issues. How he speaks, what he says, what he doesn't say, all this is bringing the American people to a greater collective character.
As Christians, we MUST vote. If there is absolutely no one on the ballot that we can support (we need to think of down ticket races, too, not just President and Governor, but State Senate and Congress and State Assembly or State Rep, however your state does it.) If there is no one we can support, we should cast a blank ballot. It will get us into the habit of going to the polls and voting in every election so that when there is someone good, we will vote for them.
We only have ourselves to blame for the immorality of our country. We were too complacent, too uninvolved in the political process, too content in our own lives to look at what was happening. It impacts all of us, even if we try and lead moral lives.
It's like the story of the drowning man who, waiting for God to save him, ignored the three boats God sent him. God has given us the opportunity to change the world by our vote because we live here, in America, the most free country in the world. We must use all tools at our disposal to elect good, moral men like George W. Bush.
Remember, we are all sinners. I can forgive past transgressions in I am confident there will be none in the future.
Because -- to quote the GOP -- "ABORTION is VITAL to the solution" of population control at home and abroad.
Get it straight. The "I'm personally opposed, BUT ... " party is the ARCHITECT of our successful population control strategy. No nation has ever had a successfuly population control strategy without abortion.
Abortion is a GOP policy.
"Abortion is Vital to the Solution" ... A Key Point from Kissinger's NSSM-200
Wrong!
You don't think that passing a law overturning partial birth abortion 3 times is trying?
I give up. Is possible for the republicans to ever please you?
Right now there are conservatives in congress who are trying to fight the good fight. The liberals demonize them for it. And our response it to complain about them. It's a wonder that they try at all.
If you really want to complain about not trying. Then instead of complaining about the republicans in congress, why don't you complain about the do-nothing conservatives who FAILED to raise enough public support to force clinton to sign one of the bills, who FAILED to change enough of the pro-death senators' votes to override the vetos, who FAILED to reelect prolife senators, who FAILED to defeat these pro-death senators.
That's right - I guess you prefer Hilary to become President the next time. Get real - or real politik. You represent about 5 - 10% of the voting public. ALL mainstream politicians are ALWAYS going to be of the left of you - there just isn't any room to your right. So, knowing that ALL serious contenders are to your left, HOW far to the left do you want to go - to Bush or to Clinton? That is reality. Naderites found everyone, even Gore, to their right, but they weren't practical and now they are living with a President far to their right.
You tell me who would put better judges on our courts.
You remember the punch line in that Tom Lehrer song "National Brotherhood Week" don't you?
