The more socialist the state, the more likely it is to have tolerant and permissive attitudes toward dope, porn, and sodomy (gay marriage etc). Libertarians should note this well and ponder its significance.

Socialism is still a dirty word in American politics.

And it always will be in my book. Just another word for Communism! Totally anti-American, anti-Constitution. Where is Joe McCarthy when you need him!

I always chuckle when I hear how Karl Marx was proven wrong with the collapse of the Soviet Union, and that capitalism has prevailed. As an avid reader of Marx, and just about everything else written, Marx thought that the developed western economies would evolve into socialism and then communism, but wondered if it might be possible for lesser developed countries to attain socialism through armed revolution. It was Lenin who was wrong in focusing on the development of a dedicated cadre of party members in third world economies who would seize power, impose socialism upon the masses, and bring about communism through central economic planning. Marx has thus far been absolutely correct in his predictions concerning the evolution of the western developed economies, as this post points out. I would only add that our tax structure also serves as an economic planning system, along with its' role in redirecting wealth, and that Marx thought in centuries, not in decades, as current pundits would like us to believe.

This said, it does not mean I want it to happen. I grieve the loss of individual liberty that we have sustained, and that many even here at Free Republic seem unable to perceive, or quite ready to justify in the name of the War on Drugs.
