The "gun show loophole" is anti code for the end of private sale.

"Tupperware parties for criminals." I always figured this meant that housewives had taken up selling Glocks as a nice little home-based business.

Joe, maybe you can help. I have been trying to find out why typing - to: "bang_list" - in the search bar no longer takes me to the bang list. Also, what does the "*" before bang_list in the "to" bar do?
Thanks

the one and only gun show, I have been to. Was more of a patriotic haven.
I did not see anyone of mid-eastern background(yeah I know racial profiling).
Did not see anyone, that even look anything close to a criminal(Yeah I know racial profiling again).
I did see several rednecks, but mostly I saw, normal everyday men and women buying guns.
Lots and Lots of guns. It was a blast.

The reason criminals don't get their guns from gun shows is really pretty easy to see if you've ever been to one. They're crawling with cops, especially off-duty cops. Security is often provided by them, and they're visitors as well. If you were a wanted criminal, you'd avoid those places like the plague.

I agree with post #3. The so-called "gunshow loophole" talk is just another step down the slippery slope to banning the private sale of guns among law abiding citizens.
I also agree with post #6. The gunshows I have visited have been populated with decent, law-abiding people who hunt, target shoot or collect as a hobby.

"the" already answered most of your question in his post #8. Since John Rob set up the new search engine, the old means of searching FR for the bang_list no longer works. The asterisk ('*') also started appearing about the same time.
Stay safe,

Also, I don't know about other states, but in California (cue to start blasting me and telling me to move) even private sales need to be processed through an FFL. Ain't nobody buying a gun at a gun show here without the background check, unless the seller is willing to take a risk and bypass it. I bought a colt Python in October from a private collector at a gun show, and there wasn't any way he was going to sell it to me without transferring ownership through an FFL. Not that I asked him to, or would have expected him to, but the conversation quickly turned to me finding an FFL to do the paperwork for us.

In New York State it is NECESSARY to have a CHL to even possess a handgun. You need the "State's" approval to defend yourself there!

bump for the truth!

The "gun show loophole" is anti code for the end of private sale. Exactly. Every "reasonable compromise" with the anti-gun lobby becomes a "loophole" as soon as the bill is passed.

As of Jan. 1, 2003, you will need a license to purchase a handgun in California. It will not apply to weapons previously purchased, but I imagine the legislature will eventually get around to that one, as well. In the meantime, I'll be stocking up in 2002, because I don't intend to get one of their steekin' licenses.

Sure. You mean the "previous purchase loop-hole".

Good Article!
And to think a year ago I was a member of some online anti-gun group. Still learning, finally got cable TV a month ago, so now I can tune out CBSABCNBC!! Getting news here with intelligent commentary is quite an eye opener also. Thanks FR and JR.
