My wife is also foriegn-born; and she loves this Nation very dearly. She, like myself, thinks allegiance to a flag is silly. On the other hand, I have no doubt that she would lay down her life to sustain the Constitution.
With the exception of the Native Americans, we're all foriegn, aren't we?
As I mentioned before, I've served in the US military, and would gladly do so again except I'm "over the hill". The "Pledge of Allegiance" is not a cultural artifact, it came into being in the 1950's. It is basically contentless prattle. Allegiance to a flag? Nope, no way. Allegiance to the Constitution and a Nation. Always.
It is not unreasonable to assume that athiest citizens can give this Nation a measure of allegiance without heeding another's notion of a god. Read the article again with an open mind.
